Does anyone remember a program called Texture Maker, developed by Tobias Reichert? And if so, what happened to it?
It was a seamless texture making system that was sort of a combination of Filter Forge components and a Photoshop style semi-destructive editing interface. Though I definitely prefer the procedural workflow of programs like Filter Forge (and Reactor 5, as I see there are some synth makers in the FF ranks), Texture Maker was one of the most well thought out non-procedural editing environments I've ever used. Then one day, Tobias seemed to just vanish, along with any further news or updates on Texture Maker. It's almost like some kind of weird ghost story for the texture graphic authoring community. (Only it would need to end, "and when they got out of the car and looked at the car door ... THERE WAS ALIASING ON THE DOOR HANDLE!") Below is the link to the time-weathered remains of the Texture Maker site. Even the Texture Maker forums, still accessible until about a year ago, have finally succumbed to years of exposure to the elements of the Internet. http://www.texturemaker.com/news.php |

I do remember that program, and I have no idea what happened to Tobias. I vaguely remember hearing, perhaps on his forums, that he still processes orders for TextureMaker, but alas, we can't confirm that since the forums are now gone.

Have you sent an email to Tobias himself from the contact page?
http://www.texturemaker.com/contact.php It seems that the last version is from 2004 as seen here in the downloads.com website |

I actually may have sent him an email back in 2008 or something, but I don't recall ever getting a reply. The last version (3.1), at least the latest one I'm aware of, was released in 2007, as far as I know.
http://www.texturemaker.com/download.php It's just weird. It was nice program. I hope he's doing okay, whatever the case may be. |

There's another one called Mapzone that's free, it turned into the expensive substance designer. http://www.mapzoneeditor.com/index.php?PAGE=DOWNLOAD Tuts on both here under E: 2d resources http://terrymorgan.net/sitemap.html Mapzone makes pretty good normal maps |
