I have just the news that to go against Intel and his 32 cores computer, AMD has made an arrangement with a computer company and hardware manufacturers to be able to make a new 64 cores computer

A450-AMD Interlagos Workstation Quad CPU and up to 64 cores and 2 GPUs

If you are tired of waiting for Filter Forge to render the result on your computer, upgrading to this computer will surely be much faster smile:D

Instead of one Quad core you will have a Quad CPU smile:D

And FF Inc. has confirmed that FF 4.0 will have the same render engine and same speed as FF 3.0

So this is a good opportunity to get a FF faster and so that spiderwebs does not grow on you waiting to the renders to finish in high resolutions.

Although I have to say that there is a "slightly" bad news smile;), the price smile:D

This new computer cost

8.400$ with 64 cores with 2.6Ghz chips
7.200$ with 64 cores with 2.2Ghz chips (there is more differences than the 0.1 Ghz)
6.400$ with 64 cores with 2.1Ghz chips
5.600$ with 48 cores with 2.4Ghz chips
4.800$ with 32 cores with 2.6Ghz chips

This price includes everything needed for a computer to work, RAM, graphic card, hard drive, DVD, power supply, case, etc. (not the monitor)

So go and buy one of this "cheap" computers and do no keep waiting for your FF renders smile;) smile:D

lolol probably go obsolete in 2 years. Oh you know, like with most technology. Just goes obsolete. *ahem sarcasm*

of course that always the technology goes obsolete smile:D but I think that with will take a little bit longer perhaps to get obsolete smile;) smile:D

Although considering the new amazing roadmap of cpu´s that will be released, not much more, for next two years I think that they will be obsolete by then or at least much cheaper.

Although I have had the old and slow cpu chip for 6 YEARS until last year, so I do not care much if it is getting obsolete or not.

I understand your sarcasm smile:)

By the way, if I could afford to this, I think the best option and good relation between power, perfomance, and speed and time to get "old" would be the 48 core option.

Although perhaps for this amount money there could be also some offer from Intel side that could be same or better, and in 2012 I would prefer to have an Intel Vs AMD, as is not really important how MANY CORES you have, what is mainly and most needed and essential is the SPEED PERFOMANCE of those chips, as now some 4 cores from Intel are faster than some 8 cores from AMD and in the same range of prices.

Yeah sometimes less is more. When I put my current Pc together, a friend tried to get me to buy an AMD cpu, because he was convinced that more cores = MORE POWER!!!
I did some research and reading and went with an intel with less cores instead, and I´m still happy with my decision. More cores doesn´t necessarily mean better performance. And I need a stable working machine, not some toy to show off.
I maxed out the ram tho smile:D

Actually the bigger question is does the software we use even recognize up to 32 cores to begin with? I only know a handful of programs that even deal more than 16 cores.

Yeah that´s ofc true. It always depends on what you want to do with your computer.

of course that the number of cores is not at all the most important thing to show the power, speed and perfomance of a computer.

AND also the other parts of the computer must be able to handle right the huge amount of cores and do not make a bottleneck

Well, Vladimir when I asked, he said that FF would regognize and use ANY amount of Cores the computer may have even 16 or 32, this was on another thread.

I figure it would.

Lately my job's become slightly more CPU intensive and I'm just digging out some more methods to make sure those render times don't go skyrocketing. My clients though don't have great computers to begin with so I usually have to build my scenes super light weight and super fast and easy to handle. smile;) I'm just considering buying a new computer but the limits I have right now are actually keeping part of this business alive.

The people who I generally work with have 2 ~ 4 cores with minimum 2gb of ram. They generally want a newer machine but they don't like switching versions due to the set of tools they basically developed for themselves. Though of course larger places I work with will have amazing machines just roaring with speed and stuff but that's like less than 20% of anybody who I meet.

smile:p But hey, thanks to all these limits if you give me a scene that takes 20 minutes to render, depending on complexity and the way you set it up, I can take render times down to 10 seconds on the same render engine. I have to because I don't want to waste time rendering scenes too! (Note that's a ridiculous example. I'd tell you realistic numbers after my testing / observation phase.) And that's about 30% ~ 40% of my tasks per project.

So when I see 32 cores I'm going "pssh... you making a one-man Transformers film? Is this a new first-world issue? Slow computers and the desire for higher quality stuff cheap?" smile:p

Well, I let my ego speak. And this is what happens. I should quit posting stuff on FilterForge.
