Hi everyone! I have missed you all so much. It seems like a year since my last visit. You have all been very busy I see. Wonderful posts everyone. From pigs to pendents and creatures in the sea you all amaze me. I love everything you have created. I haven't felt very artistic just yet, but I did try a sculpt last night. I'm afraid he is not the best, but I have to get back to what I love somehow. So here is my Blue monster. I used Gigi's fantastic new Spirograph filter v5 as the back ground and Gene's Crazy Grain to make everything very graphic. Sorry he isn't the best, but I will get better.

Hi SpaceRay. I have missed you too. I see you have been busy yourself with some new filters. Good to see you creating. Thank you for the post in the sad news thread. I hope to be getting back to some sort of "normal" very soon.

Mardar, why you said that your last creation is not the best ? I find your sculpt very well done. Just one thing : I see a sadness in his eyes.

He's got funny ears
![]() I wonder if they gave him a hard time in school for that, or if on his planet these ears are considered sexy ![]() |

Mardar ... It is great to see new sculpts from you. Your alien is one of the best things you have done in my opinion. It is like an illustration for a science fiction story. Something like: "The creature from another dimension" Gigi's filter in the background looke like some kind of spacewarp. The guy looks like some rubber faced guy from the Tom Baker era of Doctor Who.(sorry, I know some folks, maybe most, won't get that reference) It is so cool to make a sculpt and then use FF to turn it into something else completely different. You still got it Kid .....

OK, Here is a photo of my pendant as created by Shapeways. The wavy look comes from a slight surface roughness. That is, I guess, an effect of the printing process which the material is somehow (I think it is magic) melted in the shape of the obj file. They have lots of different materials. The white one on the left is a dense plastic and it about 2 inches high. The smaller one is about 1 inch high and was formed in and aluminum filled material. I have a really good imagination, but when I was a kid if someone had told me a guy could sculpt something on a computer and poof suddenly it's a solid object, I would have said they were crazy .... Showing my age I guess ......

This looks like a very nice render of the sculpt
![]() You could use a sharp hobby knife or scalpel to smoth the wavy look. My only concern would be the ring on the top... How strong is it, if you are actually going to use it as a pendant. Maybe it's a good idea to glue a metal figure eight on the back of the pentant for strength. |

Gigi, I guess my own sadness leaked into the sculpt. I didn't notice that until you mentioned it. But I guess monsters feel sad sometimes too.
![]() Morgan, those ears are the sexiest on his planet. This guy is considered the Brad Pitt of his kind. ![]() Gene when I was in my 20's (many moons ago LOL) there was a local TV station out of Columbus that aired a show ever Friday night. It was called the night owl. This guy wore huge owl like glasses and showed 2 or 3 B-monster movies. I never missed a Friday night showing. The "Night Owl" would play smooth jazz in the background and talk about the movies he was showing as well as the jazz he was playing during the breaks. Loved that show so much I even wrote and asked for an autographed photo of him, and to my surprise he sent me one. LOL He showed all kinds of monster and sci-fi movies and I ate it all up. It's no wonder why I love making monsters now. Some of those movies were so bad, I would roar with laughter at them. I would love to see some of those old 50's Drive-in fodder again. That was real good fun entertainment. Now to your pendents. When are you going to start selling them? And put me at the very top of the list to buy some. A couple of those 1 inch tiki's would look very great hanging from my ears. I'm not kidding. I would love a pair of those for earrings. Those are really awesome. |

Morgan ... I kinda like the wavy look. It is a bit like wood grain. But I may have to smooth some of my future sculpts. I am cocerned about the loop as well. This material seems pretty strong, but my next step is to try to cast duplicates of the model and I don't know if cast resin will be as strong. Maybe I can cast a metal ring into the loop. Thanks for the idea .....
Mardar ... I'm still in the experimental stage with this stuff. As I told Morgan my next step is to do some castings. I could make these available for purchase on Shapeways, but they just sell the models and you would have to come up with your own earring hardware to make them work. They have many types of material at a wide price range. This is my first attempt that worked. (My first was a sculpt on a plane which they rejected as unable to reproduce) I'm trying to come up with methods of making sculpts that have less volume so they will be cheaper to reproduce. It is just so confusing for this old guy .... I am glad you like them and I'll figure out a way to end up with earrings .... |

Nice pendants Gene, well done.
![]() I don't know what it is, but it seems like an alien mouse below. I did not have time to finish it because the Sculptris closed. But I had time to save the last work on it. Mouse not so nice but I had the choice to put it in the carbage or here. ![]() visit https://gisoft.ca |

LMAO Gigi love that last one
![]() Mardar that is sad, hang in there, I'd like to tell you things will be better soon but these things take time, they do ease to a dull pain that is some what easier to live with. Gene super cool, maybe a bit of emery to smooth them, on the flip side it has become part of the design and could be designed incorporated in future prints ![]() ![]() |

Gigi .... your mouse is so funny ... he has such chubby cheeks and those teeth are just perfect. He looks kinda friendly, but I'm just not a mouse guy and I really hate rats.(have had some bad experences with them) Mice are nice as long as they are not real ... Cool sculpt ....
Carl ... Thanks for checking my pendants out. Hope folks don't think this Shapeways stuff is to far from FF because I have more phots on the way. I'm molding and making duplicates now. I like the texture as long as I am making tikis because they are supposed to be based on wood carvings anyway. I did try fine sandpaper on some of my molded forms and it does not come out too smooth. I will try emery next .... In my experimenting with Shapeways I have used many tools I never used much before. This ugly guy started on an Ipad app called SculptMaster. It is not very good for detail, but it is an easy way to make a quick sketch. I have been fooling around with different kinds of abstract body shapes on it. This is a real monster that I detailed in Sculptris and then did some FF magic .... ![]() |

Shapeways again .... Got molding done and have been making copies. It has been a long time since I did any casting. Over the years they have improved mold making, but the resin is still hard to deal with at times. This is my first cast and you can see that there are some voids caused by bubbles. Did some painting with black and drybrushed on some bronze metal paint.

I did a better job casting this one, almost no defects. The color was an attempt to duplicate the effect produced the Rusterizer filter by Corvus Croax. I got the colors off a bit. The green and the rust colors were the wrong shade. I was shooting for rusted steel and ended up with something like corroded copper. The roughness of the molded surface is good for painting .......

Ooooh I like this one too. It does look like copper with a great green patina on it. This makes it look more like hammered metal than wood. Maybe two shades of brown, one dark and one medium, would give it a nice rich wood look.

Marda ... My uploads are slow, this cursed dial-up. Easy to cross wires with me. Ears again and those eyes are so real and evil looking. You were telling the story of the Night Owl guy. I think I might have seen that show years ago when I was traveling. Either that or there was one just like it elsewhere in the country. I think there was some kind of creature feature type program on most all local TV stations back in the 60's and 70's. That was before cable. I bought a DVD called Sci-Fi Invasion, 50 old movies and most of them awful ... The older we get the fuzzier the good old days get ...... You still have a good memory for old monsters ... Nice sculpt ... Good background .....

Thanks Carl .......
I did this guy just to use the background. I was trying to get this square guy to look like it was done on copper foil. Carved him on flat box I had created in another 3D program. Lots of FF magic got me the old copper look. The background is a tiled version of a combination of two of Gigi's cool filters. I love it .... ![]() |

SpaceRay .... when I first saw your pansy picture in the other thread my first thought was: "A bunch of monsters" cool dude ......
Gigi ... You are quite right about your filters. I could spend a lot I time playing with them. They are great for making tiles. The abilty to use other textures within them give them so much versatility. I was a little disappointed at first that they did not work well in non-square images, but making tiles and making backgrounds with my tiling filter is so much fun. Some really unique backgrounds can be produced .... Great filters girl ...... |
