Wasn't there something else? I'm sure there was - you just forgot. This is a very difficult thread to search. I think it was several months ago and you were using one of your sock puppet accounts. You were not referring to him by name but it was obviously Bob Costas you were talking about. smile:)

Salsa recipe to check against yours

Not necessary - it was a hit. I figured out the secret to great salsa - find great tomatoes. I also think the jalapeños and garlic are better roasted in the broiler than the pan - but that's just personal preference.

Btw, is the emphasis used to pronounce Beliria like that used to pronounce ballerina or delirious. It seems like I read that the English never place emphasis on more than one syllable in a single word. Is that correct?

Earlier I was trying to understand where mudbox and zbrush fit into the texturing process. I found this video that helped clear that up but also is interesting because the author is obviously knows what he's doing. The upshot is that mudbox and zbrush seem to be more displacement editors than modeling programs and are not used for texturing at all. I guess the workflow would be to block in you model in maya then load it into mudbox or zbrush, tweak the verts, then load it back into maya for texturing. What I had originally thought was that mudbox and zbrush were trying to replace filter forge, photoshop and maya in the texturing process. It makes a lot more sense now. smile:)

Only a few minutes ago I finished the nurbs model of the cartoon goggles. I will not post a wip because I do not like the model. Next I have to model a cartoon character that I also dislike very much. I need to get good a nurbs though so I will do it but I do not like working on cartoon characters. smile:evil: I get to do a spider and a girl after that. smile:D

It looks like Houdini competes with RealFlow and Syflex in the dynamics area – wind blowing hair, explosions, gravity pulling muscles, that sort of thing. Not my problem right now.

I like that one very much.

I have tried human skin several times but it looks like crap.

I was noticing the texture on this face. It looks surprisingly good. This is a model sold at Renderosity. supposedly when you buy the model you get the skin and some cloths but I have no idea how that all works.

I don't know. My guess is they would used something like Maya/XSI in combination with a procedural package like FF and something to push bits around like PS.

Do you remember the name of that shader making software you posted a link to a while back? I would like to look at that again.

I am having trouble finding an answer. I do not know if the textures used in games are generated in advance then applied to the character or object during game play or if they are generated in real-time. smile:?:

I do know it takes 43 seconds to render your Gouged and Scarred filter even with aa turned off. So they're not going to render something like that real-time. Although the individual maps take only about a second each. Maybe when you are waiting for a game to load, that is what it's doing, loading textures from the dvd. smile:|

actually, game graphics on consoles is in real time these days. the PS3 broke all sorts of new barriers on this. but, not so on the pc's yet. for sheer compute power dedicated to graphics, the consoles are hands down the winners in power over the desktops. so, dont worry too much about render times in FF translated over the game machines. there was a video circulating for a while back just before the PS3 hit the retail stores. it would blow your mind to see what they were doing in real time with both 3d animation and 3d texture rendering in real time. not only that, but the rendering included shaders being run in real time also. it would really just flip you out.

the pc's still have to pre-render; the consoles not so much any more.

also, re skin/flesh texture, you need to define what and how much you're going to do on that one. you going to include the hairs, the veins and blood vessels and other mottling or do you just want to do 'skin'?

if you're just talking skin, then 'noise' is one of the big secrets to good skin. skin is omni colored. it's not all pink or brown for one skin type. it varies quite a bit even within a single square inch. so, noise is your friend on this one.

Layers and using the blends with them help too, like colour layers with different tones of skin and over laying them etc with different levels of transparency to show some of the other colour through.

am on my today would be the start of my 3rd week with it. Good news is I don't want to just sleep all day due to lack of sleep at night cause of all the coughing and sneezing etc. Am a lot better though smile:) Thanks. Still got a cough and sneezing but not so much, least am sleeping more at night.. when I remember to head to bed. My worry was last year when I had this it triggered Dysphonia, had to give up my job cause I couldn't talk (hurt like mad if I tried) and took the Doc's 3 months to figure out it had turned to that. Followed by 6 months of speech therapy smile:( . So am trying to be careful this time. Anyway we all get ill at some stage smile;), just kinda explaining why I haven't been in much.

And its only a bug so will get over it sometime, yay!
