Am amazed at what Ron has done.. I open programs like that and end up just thinking well what now.. and move a few lines around etc etc.

Store looks a bit different than that now Steve, I added a few bits to the side..
And I think SL is encouraging real life businesses to set up in the virtual world. Good thing is though once FF have set something up in there they could hire managers or something to do the day to day running or nominate a member of staff at FF to be a store manager or something like that. Maybe even invite those that have purchased or won copies of FF to sell their textures via with a percentage cut. Lots of possibilities just a case of using them. Plus there are other virtual worlds as well.

Don't be discouraged, (my spellcheck also suggested that you not be 'disco raged' either). I just checked the date of my first save for the gun model and it was on 5-30-08. That is only about nine weeks ago, sometimes it seems like forever but it is not that bad, that I started modeling. I am now confident that, given enough time, I could model anything simpler than a car. If I can do it anyone can. I am very average from the point of view of aptitude.

Have not heard of those. Do you consider the makers of SL very inovative? Is SL changing (improving) all the time or has it plateaued. What is the next big thing that will be introduced to SL?

Hard to say, but SL is forever evolving but most of that is down to the residents as well as any new thing introduced by Linden Labs (the creators of second life). Like you with modeling designers and creators and scripters in SL are getting better so as they get better more cool things show up in world.. even uncool stuff like copy tools that enable people to steal others work.

The spellcheck did not offer a definition but rage at anything other than the machine is probably misdirected – especially something as pathetic and tragically sad as disco.

Um.. no, cause its in my inventory still *coughs*

But with some of the nasty copy tools I have seen if the plant is on sale with modification permissions they can use one of the copy scripts. But I have heard there are ones they can do that without having to buy the item. The old style they could do that but all it did was copy the prims not scripts. Some people in SL don't get the IP right or copy right side of things, although when they signed up to SL it does state about copy rights and IP rights of content designers in the Terms of Service as well as the Linden Lab's rights etc. Basically if the said people that copy/steal etc are caught they can get banned. Like most things though there are loop holes smile:(

Um yep I got banned from a Store on the weekend cause I asked one of the Designers a question lol. Although I think it was more a miss communication because English isn't her first language. Anyway I sent a notecard to the owner of the store ref the situation and when she logged into SL Tuesday she sorted it out. My bar got lifted. Silly situation really.

Most is a case of Residents sorting things out between them, but depending what the dispute is like if its a store selling ripped off goods you created then you can file a DMCA and report them, but you need to send proof like dates etc and screen shots. That has not happened to me yet, or if it has I haven't found the copied stuff, but it has happened to a few of my friends who have stores and to well know designers in SL.

People just think that they are above copy rights and IP rights because they don't live in the same country or the same state etc or the area they live in has different rules. They forget that they agreed to the Linden Lab terms when they signed up.

I have heard some even taking people to small claims courts because of copy right infringements.

I would say depends. Theres liking something then making your version of it. Then theres out and out copying and using a tool to do it in a blink of an eye. Normally the latter means the said person has no clue about building, but are happy to sell what others create. I have some things that have taken me a few months on and off to build. Mainly cause they was bugging me so I put them away for a later date to look at again.

Would depend if its 100% copy, but normally if someone likes the look of something and they make their own version its not the same as the original, it may bear some similarities but thats about it. 55% to 100% copies I don't like. Say if you was to see my wings and build a version of them, if they only bear a similarity how do I know you have seen them and copied them (unless its 100% the same), it maybe a case of someone else had the same idea or one similar. It's one of them tough things.

Cause I made a belly ring when I was new, and since then have seen ones very similar but I noticed they had been created before the one I made. Thats kinda another issue, how do you know if it was a intentional copy or just coincidental?

Ooo.. maybe I should check out becoming a politician? smile;). It's probably more of a case of I'm not explaining very well.

um right, using a script to copy, not good. Copying someones design or creation not good.

But then you get the, if something is similar did they copy it or is it just coincidental and they just happened to have built something similar to what you have made?

Renderin!? Oh no no no. This and the next several models will never be rendered. If you remember, this all started about almost a year ago (in four days it will be exactly a year that I installed Maya), it took me a few months to get familiar enough with the world of 3d to chart a course but once charted it has been ballistic ever since. It goes like this; character setup, modeling, texturing/lighting. I am about a third of the way through the modeling. Can you believe it has taken so long? I don't mind, it has been worth it - the best decision I ever made. smile:D

Thank you. smile:) I am not embarrassed about taking credit because I really did model this on my own. I only watched the instructional videos after I complete that section - rim, for example.

You can tell this is true by looking at things like the wing vents and rear view mirror. Here is the instructor's version at the same point in the project.

Thank you. I was so proud of how I worked it out. I used a curve profile and a revolve. Then I watched the video of how the pro does it. He pointed out that we could take advantage of their radial symmetry. In other words, only one tenth of it needs to be modeled which can then, with flips and mirrors, be duplicated. So I did about 90% too much work. smile:( smile:evil: Oh well, live and learn.
They need a lot of tiny tweaking but the mesh is quaded and clean - ready to texture. With some great textures and high quality lighting they could pass from a distance.

Maybe you should stick with cooking. smile:-p

Speaking of which, I'm about to prepare my favorite salsa recipe. Do you have any tips?

Here is the one I like to use.

Essential Roasted Tomato-Jalapeño Salsa
From Rick Bayless's Mexican Kitchen: Capturing the Vibrant Flavor of a
World-Class Cuisine, by Rick Bayless

Makes about 2 cups

* 1 pound (2 medium-large round or 6 to 8 plum) red, ripe tomatoes
* 2 large (about 1 ounce total) fresh jalapeño chiles
* 3 garlic cloves, unpeeled
* Salt, about a scant 1/2 teaspoon
* 1/2 small (about 2 ounces) white onion, finely chopped
* A generous 1/3 cup loosely packed chopped cilantro
* About 1 1/2 teaspoons cider vinegar (optional)

1. Roasting the basic ingredients.
The broiler method: Lay the tomatoes on a baking sheet and place about
4 inches below a very hot broiler. Roast until blistered and blackened
on one side, about 6 minutes; with a spoon or pair of tongs, flip the
tomatoes and roast on the other side.
The griddle method: Line a griddle or heavy skillet with aluminum foil
and heat over medium. Lay the tomatoes on the foil and roast, turning
several times, until blistered, blackened and softened, about 10
minutes. Don't worry if skin sticks to the foil. Cool, then peel the
skins, collecting all the juices with the tomatoes. While the tomatoes
are roasting, roast the chiles and unpeeled garlic directly on an
ungreased griddle or heavy skillet (you already have one set up if
you've griddle-roasted the tomatoes) over medium. Turn occasionally
until both chiles and garlic are blackened in spots and soft, 5 to 10
minutes for the chiles, about 15 minutes for the garlic. Cool, pull
the stems off the chiles and peel the papery skins from the garlic.

2. Grinding the salsa.
The mortar method: In a large mortar, use the pestle to crush and
grind the chiles, garlic and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt to a
coarse-textured paste (this will release a wonderfully pungent aroma),
paying special attention to breaking up the chile skins. A few at a
time, grind in the roasted tomatoes, transferring the ground mixture
to a bowl if the mortar gets unmanageably full.
The food processor or blender method: In a food processor or blender,
grind the chiles, garlic and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt to a coarse
paste, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl a couple of
times. Add the tomatoes and pulse a few times until you have a
coarse-textured puree. Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl, and stir
in any reserved tomato juices.

3. Final seasoning. In a strainer, rinse the onion under running
water, shake off the excess and stir into the salsa, along with the
cilantro and optional vinegar. Add water, if necessary, to give the
salsa a thickish, but easily spoonable, consistency (2 to 4
tablespoons is the norm). Taste and season with salt, usually a scant
1/4 teaspoon, and the salsa's ready to serve.

Advance Preparation:
This salsa comes into its own a few hours after it's finished,
especially if left at room temperature. It can be made through step 2
a day or two ahead, covered and refrigerated. Add the cilantro and
onion shortly before serving.
