I'm convinced this isn't so, and that they do care about the community, knowing how important it is to the value of the product. But - as it stands - they're a small team and they're terribly busy with the "damn you, damn you, stupid" Mac version at the moment. As Vlad mentioned, the Mac version is the prerequisite for a successful marketing campaign. I have no concrete data on product sales but I'd wager that until the Mac version marketing goes live FF will remain a relatively obscure niche product.

Also - quite obviously - no amount of bickering/whining will speed up the software development process, so I'm going to spend my time of the wait constructively. When FF 2.0 finally comes (I suspect the beta might be around in the first half of 2009), many of the ongoing issues (availability of a mac version, the resource leak, EULA) will dissolve.

Hey, I got the same treatment in the beginning (and I think everyone does)! In reminiscence, my strategy for breaking that treatment was to execute a sublime triple-hit-combo filter whammy:

1) Hit'em like it's hot! --> Incinerate (November 20, 2006)
2) Chill'em real good! --> Ice Age (November 23, 2006)
3) Lounge'em out! --> Lounge Lizards (November 27, 2006)

That got their attention! smile;) smile:D

I think I did it the wrong way round.. Doh! Tried out FF then bought it, cause I decided it would be financially worth it specially with the sale on. Plus I didn't want to ask for additional free demo time just to get HU's. Not putting people down for asking, just to me its a really good package with loads of possibilities, so it's way worth the dosh smile:D smile:loveff: smile:ff:

I just personally have issues with asking for free things or extensions to free usage.. smile:D Might explain why I am broke most of the time!! smile:?:.

I don't normally really chat in forum's cause I find some are very cool/cold to new posters. Feel like your intruding smile:(, but after reading some of the posts on the FF forum's I decided most posters have a sense of humour smile:D, so I thought why not.. but yes I do have issues shutting up sometimes smile;)

If you need the reward points I'd suggest polishing your filters to be as sparklingly attractive as possible and submitting them. Getting 8 reward points (for life-long uprades) will take several good+ filters and a considerable amount of time.

If you don't need the reward points, you'll have to carefully weigh your unbridled altruism with the fact that anything on the filter library worth exploiting WILL get exploited, with some 'parasite' (still love that term) directly profiting off your work without you even being credited or seeing a dime. The way it is currently, established authors had better keep their more advanced work off the Filter Library to avoid committing slow economic suicide. Still, that's just my take on it!

Under the current system, the promise of the FF library quality growing rests with new dedicated authors who are going for it to attain their reward points. As sad as it is, the established authors have little to gain and even more to lose from submitting their work...

FF has been very generous with there reward system, it's hard not to want there sucess and growth and for themselves to be rewarded for their hard work, I personally was always happy that people were enhancing there art with my filters but hated the idea that there were people just selling them [ something that was given freely ]

Thats very true and sad.

And yep, I need to find a few cool filters to upload (or revisit some of my existing ones and upgrade them) that may help me get the 5 Hu's at least for the life time upgrades. Either that or try my hardest at winning them when the competition gets of the ground smile:D.

I like the system they have set up at worth1000.com where the winner of each competition is obliged to write a tutorial (format and forms provided by worth1000) of exactly how they made the winning entry. These tutorials are then gathered together and published as books. This would provide an additional revenue stream as well as helping to improve the documentation of ff. The winners would receive various trophy icons by their avatar/filter as well as points – what the point would buy would have to be worked out.
The contest categories are beginner, advanced and head-to-head (that would be exciting), as well as corporate sponsored (cash!) for companies in the market for a particular texture or effect – the sponsor picks the winner.
I'm sure this has all been discussed in other threads (maybe even by me) but I just wanted to add my .02$. smile:)

Some good ideas Ron, just had a look at the site - noticed one for a logo comp with $150 first prize for a French company, thought it seems a bit tight and exploitory rather than pay a designer, I guess as long as the winner happy smile:|

I think the way it works is that as the designer gains wins they move up in how expensive it is for a company to sponsor them. In other words, it would be a lot more affordable to get someone at my level to compete for your texture than for say paying Crapadilla and Malkov to go head to head.

There are a lot problems with contest. One is that if you get disqualified it's very painful because of the amount of time the entries take. Another is that there are a lot of sore loosers that feel like they should have won. Some get really angry and either try to sabotage the site or storm off. Then there are the cheaters. Winners are decided by peer voting. It is fair but newbies will try to rig it by voting their competitors low. That is watched for and punished. You are rewarded with points for voting in competitions you are not entered in. Also you build a karma rating by being honest and a good community member. StevieJ would have a karma rating of one bazillions.

Some people need it put right in their face. In the Bush administration they covered the genitals of the statues in the White house. I think they could use a little Piss Christ to help them get over it.

No clue but it's way cheaper than photo shop smile:D. Plus I know my way around paint shop. Been using psp since version 4. Plus I use gimp on and off depending what I want to do. Mind am still learning new things with both, so I'm not an expert just when I tried photo shop's demo I was having issues finding functions I was used to in paint shop.
