your welcome Ron, was very interesting art work. I love stuff like that, unusual without being totally bazaar like some art work. But then I love art that looks sci-fi/fantasy.

Here (Eanger Irving Couse – 'The Captive') is another one from another gallery in the same museum I liked. Not my usual style but I was taken in by the story. I think it does a wonderful job of depicting the complexity and gravity of clashing cultures. The nuance may be lost on the English and Australians since you guys do not have a history of oppressing native populations. smile;)

The color is way off on this image. Here is another one, the color is even more off on it, but at least you can make out the blood on her arms.

In reality the painting is probably 3 meters across.

I tried to keep an open mind about each gallery. I found something that was my favorite in each one. There was a statue by Frederic Remington that was unbelievable. It makes modeling in Maya seem easier. smile:)

However I was mentally forming a reply similar to Carl's (but probably a lot longer with Wiki links too smile:D smile;)) pre noticing the wink. So that saved me some time I tell ya!

I think sometimes it depends what kind of mood your in Carl, sometimes I'm in a defensive mood and bite peoples heads off as if they are jelly babies!(then reread and think oops (thats if its a forum post)).

Sometimes an offensive mood and get stuck in before people can say anything 'cause you just know they are going too'.. smile:cry:

But 75% of the time I am just in a plain nutty mood... which sometimes borders on to the paranoid. Kinda feel in a hugging mood at the moment too..

From the story:
"When he saw her he decided that he would like the novelty of having a white woman for a wife."
This is a gross oversimplification of the reality of the situation, the attitude of chief Five Crows and the subject of the painting - obviously written by someone that had bought in to the "wild west" narrative American history and decided to push it.

Yep in SL in the virtual world smile:D. It's products I build in there using the prims (3d shapes you can manipulate, link together etc), and texture using textures I have created or been given or bought from a texture store. And yes it can be addictive and time consuming as well Ron, but then not everyone that visits stays.

lol, I did Ahimsa. Well I got two, someone else that uses FF in here got a message which they posted in a group I'm in, in Second life mentioning that email too.

Kinda wondering how he/she's going to fund the upload fee's for the said textures to start with. 1 texture is 10L$ so 100 of them textures is 1000L$ and 1000L$ is around 4 American dollars.

Yes they have asked permission ref the filters but I bet there's a load of the textures at texture houses for sale anyway. Now I know about FF, I think I'll be watching what which texture houses sell.

Seriously, they would make fantastic art posters like you see at offices. I'm surprised you haven't made some already.

As for modeling...hopefully in the next two weeks I can get Daniel to add the RAM so I can get started. I'm really wanting to do this. I wonder if it will be similar to the way you model in Maya and if it is, then I know who to turn to for help. smile:)

Yep costs to upload textures, animations, music/sound clips etc. Kind of. Selling them I make a picture of the product which I then upload and put on a box with the said product inside. Most of my builds take anything from 3 hours to a few months to build, not including the time it sometimes takes me to create a texture.

There's a lot of money passes through hands everyday in SL.

You can live in second life for free but someone along the line pays. But to run a store that person will be paying rent (either to a private estate owner in SL, or directly to the Lindens). Then there is the uploading costs for the textures. So my thought's would be whats the catch? Would the FF textures be for free while they sell other textures? Are they planning on making a full free store? Is the free textures a plan to get people into the store so they buy other products?

Granted there are probably people like that person in Shutterstock in second life making money from the preset textures on this site, or even trying it out for free and getting extra textures that way.

And no as of yet I haven't uploaded any FF textures into Second life. If I do it would most likely be from Ron's...*coughs* I mean my filters.. hehe smile:D

I wonder that too. So far I am still in the 'introduction to modeling tools' phase of the learning process. There are around a hundred tools (in Maya tools are usually nodes) that are used for the three (nurbs, polygonal and subdiv surfaces) types of modeling. I should be able to actually start modeling later tonight. Is Carrara node based?

I have Carrara Pro 6, but I haven't installed it yet so I have no idea what's in there. I just know that people who hang out at DAZ and use it seem to really love it and it renders much better than Poser and Bryce.

The SL freebie email is from someone who goes there and must know that the freebies will end up costing her to upload. Maybe she plans to do a website where people can go to get the freebies that isn't at the SL site.

Ron, your balls would make an interesting calendar too. Maybe you could set up a Cafe Express site with them...no costs to you and you might make enough to buy Maya.

Yes and I gave permission for her to give them away inside SL - seeing people are already selling them and I have already given them away free I'd rather some one who is asking and crediting give them away, than some one sells them, puts on a copy right and claims them as there own work smile;) even if she is using it as a platform to sell other texture she could have either sold or given away our textures without our permission at least she giving credit and a link if you have a web site smile:)

Never got that message, but my definition of freebie is that its free 100%. I hate that in SL with so called free gifts that they charge 1L$ for. Yes I know 1L$ is peanuts but on the other side if 2,000 plus people buy the so called freebie thats 2,000L$ plus in the pocket for the person selling them.

Much better to do a freebie texture selling with a donation pot next or near to them so it gives people the option to donate.

Carl wrote:

I think the reason she's asking is if people are already selling the textures in SL they may do a take down request of her, saying the said textures are theirs etc.

Least this way if she asks the original creators and they say yes you can, she can turn around and say did you get permission first? etc.. well thats my theory.. probably totally wrong but, I'm only right 55.95% of the time smile;) smile:D .

Ref: fridge magnet dog, hehe... kinda reminds me of my friends cat. She (the cat) when she wanted in used to spread eagle on the front door and meow like mad.

Good thing it was a wooden front door and not a upvc one.

Unfortunately, you're right, but I won't give my permission to people who claim they are going to give it away free, but then in the same breath say they are going to ask for money for them. I have given permission to people for selling textures made from my filters as that is ok by me, it was people selling my presets that annoyed me. This woman could give the textures away free at Share if she was really wanting to do it for free, but she is wanting to profit from it and get us to say yeah, go ahead thinking we will believe she is doing it for free.

Hopefully FF will change the EULA in our lifetime. smile:D

I honestly don't know. I paid $48 for the pro version last month. It was in my cart at $176 and when I went to pay it had dropped to $48. It's still on sale in the bundle for around $195. The bundle has Bryce, Hex, and some other stuff along with the pro version of Carrara.

So do you think I should let her do them as freebies and maybe suggest the donation thing only if people want to donate like you said?
