Bob -The Thoughtful Husband...

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are over-sensitive, and there's nothing worse than an over-sensitive woman.

My name is Bob. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Linda. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Linda to get a full-time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age.

I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work and although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don’t yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club so eating out twice is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door.

She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the lawn. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Linda. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will even find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

Signed, Bob

EDITOR'S NOTE:

Bob died suddenly on May 27 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing and a sledge hammer lying nearby. His wife Linda was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 15 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defense that Bob somehow, without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

I have never heard a case of a woman killing her husband that it wasn't justified. Men are just louts, that's all there is to it.

Do you mean something stuck onto the surface of a canvas?

I know a lot gets lost in the photographing and uploading a work to the web but maybe you could post a sample of one of your paintings.

No. smile:( I used to sketch quite a bit but that was a long time ago. My book on color uses watercolors to teach how to see and understand color so I am most familiar with them.

No. I haven't tried it. I would think an even ambient light either from a single source or multiple sources of exactly the same color - and just pay very close attention. I may be worth removing the glass. It also helps to know the sweet spot of your lens - aperture wise.

Yep, I can vouch for that myself. smile:D

I liked using acrylics best. I also used to use oil pencils. My vision and my arthritis ended my painting and drawing days. Even the mouse is getting to be too painful for me.

Never thought to use oils over acrylics, but I can see how that would be a really great way to do a painting. Wish I had known about it years ago. I like the way oils look compared to acrylics, but acrylics are so much easier to use.

I've tried many things over the years and unfortunatly it's not always possible to safely remove them from the frame, especially with charcoal and pastells even if fixed they are never 100% stable even on archival paper smile;) smile:)

its a could way to lay down a surface [ cheaply - you can even use house paint ] and then build up glazes with the oils - which as you say oils have a better look smile;) smile:)

I've had arthritis since I was 9 years old, so I am used to the pain, but some days it's more than I can handle and the stiffness makes it hard to move the mouse. But it won't stop me from completely giving up art...no way! smile:D

I should still be asleep right now. smile:D

You would think though with todays technology a voice activated mouse would be simple.
Would think all it would take would be a robot like gadget incorporated into a mouse like system? Granted you would need to know a bit about robotic technology.. which counts me out smile:D. Although if someone likes the idea, an uses it.. I am open for payments for the suggestions smile;).

It is disappointing that so little progress has been made. The intractability of the problem has become almost more interesting than the problem itself.

There are these devices but they cost a lot.

Heya Ronviers

Ouch them prices are steep. Silly really, would think by now they would have something affordable out there for Joe Public that doesn't require you to rob a bank or get a mortgage.. specially with all the technology.

ronviers wrote:

Anything that becomes remotely edible smile;)

Like tonight I did diced lemon chicken, mixed with couscous which was all stirred together with finely sliced cooked caps peppers and onions, then tossed in a hand full of diced cherry tomatoes, and a mixture of herbs, pepper, garlic and coriander leaves (last 3 was cooked into the couscous). Nice thing about that meal is can be eaten hot or cold.

Basically my cooking sometimes resembles my filter building, I like experimenting smile;).

My frave which I don't make often is cheese scone based pizza with tuna and extra cheese topping.

smile:D Been tempted a few times to do a cooking blog.. mind could add that to my myspace blog..

Speaking of your filters, you are doing an excellent job. I really like your 'Aged' pair. I have one very similar to 'Aged V.2' that I have been meaning to get back to and release. I have been otherwise occupied lately so I have not been keeping up with the new releases.

Beliria wrote:

I had to google couscous and scones. It looks like the both come in a wide variety. Scones seem to be what we in the States would call biscuits but I'm not sure how you would base a pizza on biscuits. I remember having something that resembled couscous, it was served cold, but it was at a Mediterranean restaurant not Middle Eastern as shown on wikipedia.

*coughs* wouldn't that be like a stone baked pizza base?
smile;)

Scones here in the UK are normally crispy/golden brown (depending what type of scone you make) on the outside and soft and fluffy on the in. Traditional scones are served with strawberry jam and cream.

But scones are very versatile. You can make plain, savory or sweet scones, and use a verity of flour.

So scone based pizza is like having a deep pan pizza with a very light and fluffy base, thats got herbs and cheese in (and the bits not covered with pizza topping become nice and crisp on the outside).

Uk Biscuits are a whole different ball game smile:D. I think most of what are classed as biscuits here are what's called stale biscuits in the States. Normally hard things that become soft when moisture is added. (yes I am still taking about biscuits smile;) )

Kinda like couscous hot or cold (is yummy mixed with salad's). Mind have had couscous instead of rice when make chicken tika, was a lot lighter on the stomach too. Even got asked if I was a vegetarian because I said I eat couscous in meals. I could never become a vegetarian.. I love bacon butties to much!!

smile:D

Um.. I think I was making something else when I made the first aged one.. don't know what I was making or trying to make at the time, cause I have loads of filter stages I saved from other filters that I finished that are really nice and can go in totally different directions (the stages that is).

But main thing is am having fun learning, and creating (heh mind I think I know more Dont's than do's with filter building smile;)), although might start downloading some of the ones I have uploaded so I can clean out the my filter area, either that or figure out if I can create folders in that part. Like finished filters and filters in progress folders or something like that.

Wow think that might be my longest post yet! smile:eek:
