What I was thinking was that since these composite artists usually work with dozens or hundreds of images to crate a final work it might be a good idea to provide them with grunge filters that allow them to grunge only parts of an image. The one I'm working on provides them with two user defined shapes that can be located anywhere on the image. Then these shapes are used to place the grunge. The idea is that this filter could be applied repeatedly.

Excellent idea - multipule image in FF would be good too for that idea

That is Excellent!

This may be too subtle for your tastes.

It's in the very early stages. I'm not happy with it.

I'm getting the idea and it looking very very promising - when you say 2 shape the selection component would be good for this - hey wait a minute are you saying i'm not subtle smile:D

I think it was "yeah baby" in "Austin Powers".....but I had extreme difficulties getting through the first five minutes of the movie.....and just couldn't watch anymore of it..... smile:|

Capt'n Carl, I still like those first two samples on this page, but after a second look, I would suggest hiding the "frame" in the second sample like it is in the first sample..... smile:devil:

I'm trying to make this one have more of a mixed chuncky/blocky/pannelly/strippy overlay combined with smoothy/corrosy/washy intercut with of course scratchy bits [ hope that wasn't all to technical sounding smile:D ] [ in all seriousness prefer really crit than superfical sugar ]

Capt'n "backcheek the pirate" Carl smile:dgrin: Seriously, I would suggest (1) limitting the frame aperature to the outside like in your first sample, (2) no rounding on the frame corners, and (3) limit the frame color to black. This should blend in (grunge in) the frame with the rest of the effects so it's not noticable like in your first sample..... smile:devil:

I think this is by far your best "artistic abstract grungifier"!!! smile8) smile8) smile8)

Still needs a lot of work but this is closer to what I had in mind - more of a grunge embellishment filter.

The idea here is (as it continues to evlove) that each of the objects can be any width, height or position on the image. Right now they are both the same color but that can change. It already has too many controls.

This is looking very interesting Ron [ looks like rust at moment smile8) ] are you planning a variety of elements on switches? I think your onto a cool idea smile;) smile:)

I know what your saying it will be adjustable, the design is all intergrated - as in the corners are governed by blocks [ I know weird I'm getting sometimes round corners ] it still needs work and the adjustments you suggest I will look at changing how the corners work and make them just square smile;) smile8) thanks for your input smile;) smile:) --- " Heinous " will appear this week at your local FF smile:D

I'm going to shelve it. It is just takes too much time to wrap up an idea. The last two filters I posted I had to have removed because I had done a half-assed job of cleaning up the details.
Did this weekend result in any pics from your new camera? How is the transition from film to digital going?

yes I've moved out of the darkages of my 30 year old film camera, which the light meter hadn't worked on for years [ it has given me the ability to guess light value through so many bad exposure smile;) ] and I'm not going to miss the chemicals.

He's really nice, maybe you should mention it to him. The thing I like are the no flashing adds, in fact, no adds of any kind, and his clear writing style.

Our little dog has alzhiemers its sad but it also can be very funny [ she also is still very happy I must add smile;) ] she forget things - you have to stop her over drinking, she'll have a drink walk round in a circle and she'll think that what I was going to do have a drink and this can go on and on till she make her self sick - she use to always know where the doors are know she'll stand facing a wall waiting for you to open it smile:D

I learned something spectacularly cool yesterday. It's too technical to describe but isn't it great what can be done with nodes. What did we do before node based apps. Why would anyone ever make anything other than a node based app? I just heart nodes. smile:)

She is and smart, it amazing what she can pickup, for example: I'm thinking to myself I'll give her a bath which she hates with a passion, I've done nothing except get up and she's off like a rocket hiding under the bed, some times I think she can read my mind LOL At 15 she has one paw in the grave and like you, dread her passing as we love her dearly [ child substitute LOL ] I've had dogs all my life and she is something special with her personality and intelligence smile:)

It the only way I've been able to make filters smile;) mind you making filters with mapzone [ which is an excellent freebee which I like playing with too ] nodes for example is a lot harder than FF for example so it also has to be a good node base like FF smile;) smile:)

Is that ever true. I have had the hardest time cozying up to the nodes in Maya. There are just so many connections and so much is allowed - it's madness.

Ok, here it is. smile:D

Just two utility nodes, a point constraint, a geometry constraint and a nurbs plane can be used to drive the scale of the sphere, which can then be used as a blendshape deformer. This deformer can then be used to control things like the distortion of a flexing bicep. Notice how the fuchsia locator's (gnomon) movement is constrained to the plane even thought the animated object (the green ik handle) is moving in three axis. This overcomes the problems inherent in working with Euler angles (pronounced oiler).
I am more into the artistic parts of 3d but sometimes the technical stuff is so cool that it blows my tiny mind.
