Just checked it out.....and looks great!!! smile8) I didn't know you were making mechs..... smile:devil: I've been bouncing an idea around to develop an online mech game based on concepts started by PS "Armored Core" and PC "Mech Warrior".....and set it up similar to how "World of Warcraft" online has been done.....which has become a "huge" $,$$$,$$$.$$-making business..... smile:devil:

It's not bad if you do freshwater fish.....but doing saltwater fish has alot more to it..... smile:eek:

Thanks. smile:D And I know that by "great" you mean funny looking. This is just a rig demo. I needed a way to quickly test my skinning so I put together this little animation. This way I can scrub the time slider at certain intervals, observe how the joint movement deforms the geometry, and make adjustments.

You can read online how to set up a freshwater or saltwater tank.....might seem overwhelming at first.....but not bad once you understand everything and get going with it..... smile:)

I see. No, this is just a rig. You can see it with a model attached to it here:

This is with the default bind so it looks awful. Fortunately the video quality is so poor that you can hardly tell how bad it is.

nope, no tornados here this time. we've had a couple here in the past, though, one fairly large not more than a half mile from my house. it's really quite true what they say it sounds like, a large frieght train at full speed. we had another come up the river, smaller and it didnt quite touch down. it stayed at treetop level and literally mowed the top of the trees off on one bank. aint tornado alley fun smile:)

those are cool, ron! how many hours are wrapped up in those, including the training/learning time?

Hmmm, quite a few. smile;) But I could reproduce it from scratch in a couple of weeks. I have a lot of it scripted and I can see that if I got really good at it I could do that in a morning. Essentially all the time on this first one was spent learning. I had to start over countless times. Thanks for taking a look. smile:)

it was years ago, ron. i think it was Blender i played with on a demo or free version or something. was over 10 years ago. the most 3d i've done since is in the wolfenstein ET game editor, making shapes, and scenes and such. kinda primitive by the standards of maya or something like that.

i've toyed with lots of things over the years, including max studio, various game editors, music editors, wave editors, geo map importing, and various other novelties smile;) i've done ascii 3d mapping, which is quite interesting, though completely primitive by today's standards, but did use a bump map for terrain height editing. my computer days go back to about 1971 or 72 and playing with mainframes and the first trs 80's smile:) so, i've been playing around with this stuff for a while smile:)

I ment my picture was blurry, not a judgement on your work which looked beaut so I want to examine it more closely but were unable to see detail, I worded it badly smile:blush:

Ron I've been trying to take a screen shot, and just don't seem to get it to work either I'm thick or I'm very thick any suggestions - I press the print screen button but can't find where the image would be smile:|

I strongly recomend FastStone Capture utility. It is free and compatible with Vista. You can download it here. I use it constantly and never have had a problem with it. It allows screen caps by marquee or lasso. It probably does more but that's all I use it for.

I got torn to shreds last time I said I liked it LOL, and the little nigglies seem to have been fixed so I do like it over xp - one conplaint the search doesn't seem to find alot of things for instance screen shot - came up with nothing and no mention of snipping tool smile:| there are things better than xp as in the header [which i will attach example ] which as you can click any part make iteasier to move around and back track etc - the folder and open windows that show thumd nails is handy as quick reference [ and looks nice ] - the switch between window is also handy - it has a better backup system than xp and lets face it is prettier - I like it , is there enough reason to update probly as more programs etc are designed specificly for vista advances, and as it is more user friendly and of course prettier - oh and your tablet is much more intergrated by a long shot over xp.................... this is only my opinion and without all the techno knowledge smile;) smile:)

excellent smile8) question just before the creature rotates in its quick upside down ball, when it is landing from a mini jump the bone between the knee cap and ankle [ lower leg ] appears to bend in a small arc which if human would appear unnatural and requiring a hospital visit if I am reading it correctly as the structure is equivalent to bone structure - yes extremely picky and possibly ignorant to the nature of the creature smile:)

Very observant! This is a cartoony rig. All the limbs including torso allow for unrealistic stretching and compression. This allows for the model to be pulled away from the bones for exaggerated movement. Not only can the arms, legs and spine be any length but they can be move far away from the bones. It is much more difficult to build cartoony rigs than realistic ones so I thought that would be a good place for me to start. smile:)

Maybe someday. For now I am only learning to do the animation I need to in order to test the rigs and models and maybe do a high quality walk cycle (to sell them) but that's about it. I want to get to modeling and texturing as soon as I can so that means doing the minimum rigging and animation for now. The thing is I enjoy animation much more than rigging so it would be easy for me to do nothing else but I want to stick to my plan.

I love this game video of "Armored Core".....and can't wait until games reach this level of quality.....which will happen in the next few years.....

Sometimes they put something like a 12 second "Esurance" promo in front of it.....but maximize the screen and watch the whole thing.....I think it's excellent!!! smile8) smile8) smile8)

The creature for this first project will not need weapons but it will need to spawn objects that look like weapons to be used by its minions.

and thanks for that faststone link, ron. i downloaded it. it IS free, carl. but you can donate $19.95 for a free lifetime update license.

Yeah, huge fan of the game concept.....but the graphics are still lacking.....which will change with time.....which is why I like that video so much..... smile8)

I thought it would also be neat to get everyone together and form our own 'guild' in "World of Warcraft Online".....but as you know, it's way too addictive and time consuming.....

I got the video to work. I don't know Steve, I like grunge, I like a dark mood, I even like a reduced spectrum for lighting at times, but using these effects to conceal low polygon meshes, poor lighting and rushed rendering is why I'm not happy with the state of gaming. Gaming has a long way to go - even when they get to the low bar set by this video. I want games to look like the first five minutes of 'The Two Towers' where the Balrog and Gandalf are fighting as they fall. I think the Wachowski Brothers, The Matrix and Speed Racer, are moving things in the right direction.

I thought the game video was very similar to that graphic quality.....and will be a substantial leap to get there from where games are now. You also gotta remember that those movie scenes are moving viewer "perspectives" on 2D images taken from 3D modeling (some also are 2D renders that look 3D).....and then bluescreen overlays (actually subtractive) are used to put in the "real" images.....
