hehe, i fixed the old kodak, sherry. so, no new fz18 smile:( (though, i still may sneak it into the budget somewhere smile;) ).

and as an update, the new batteries have worked out great. one set had a poor charge straight from the store, which is fairly normal. so, that first set didnt last very long before i had to put them in the recharger, but the second set is still going and havent had to replace them at all yet.

if that panasonic had a manual zoom and allowed me to set the bracketing range, i'd say to hell with the budget and go out and get it right now smile:) are ya listening, panasonic?

I just got a Canon Powershot A720IS. It's a relatively basic 8-megapixel point-and shoot camera. It has some useful features for a compact camera, like aperture- and shutter speed-priority modes. While surfing the Interweb, I came across something called CHDk. CHDK is a little application that runs of your memory card, so it doesn't change the firmware or void the warranty. When you first load it, it can save shots as RAW, display live histograms, show over- and underexposed regions, and many other useful things. Where CHDK really shines, however, is in scripts. Users have written a variety of scripts, from intervalometers to auto-bracketing to motion detection for lightning and nature photography. Ir's amazing what you can do with a Powershot.
