Oh my goodness, Ghislaine you have got the hang of this at last. Mr. Blue is great. I love him. I guess this is the place to add my newest monster. He is Nosferatu the vampire king. Hope you like him. smile;) I used a couple of filters on him to give him a different look this time.

This is so much fun to do. I think Gene was right, it's habit forming. smile:D

LOL Ghislaine, love your friend for my vampire. I think they will be great evil pals.

Here is my Frog God. lol Isn't he a beauty? smile:D

And here is a very rude Devil creature.

I used a filter or two to make him look like an old print from an antique book.

Ghislaine ... Thank you for starting this thread. It is better here because it uses non FF software. I hope folks put up lots of examples here.

As for you ladies' "monster" .... I'm afraid ... very afraid .... Is there hard drink or bad dreams involved in their creation? Either way I'm really enjoying them.

I'm going to try to upload a couple of examples of my work. I don't think they will be as scary as yours though .... I'm not sure this will work right now, I'm on dial-up and the little thingy at the top keeps spinning because my browser is still trying to download Mardar's images .....

This is a guy I painted in Sculptris. My wife used to teach ceramics and I used to detail paint some for her students. The key to painting in Sculptris is to fill the whole image with some kind of skin color and shade and highlight it. (It's kinda like applying makeup I guess) I painted the eyes while I was at it, but often do that in Photo Shop.

He ain'y very pretty but maybe not a monster. I made him as a beat up boxer, but my wife says he looks like David Letterman.

I applyed my Old Book Illustrator filter and a drop shadow. That is my Popcorn Stitch Crochet texture in the background with Vladimir Golovin's Film Frame filter as an edge effect.

Meldar's images finally stopped uploading .... Really cool, and nice filtering on the devil guy .....

Great images Gene. So glad you came over to have fun with us. I don't drink, so it must be bad dreams causing all these monster with me. smile:D

Sorry my images took so long to load. I think I messed up and saved these in png files instead of jpg. DOH!!

Your fellow looks a little like Mick Jagger too. If his hair was longer and he had a super model by his side, he would be a close match. I haven't tried coloring any of my monsters yet. Not after the Mad Chocolate King fiasco. lol But I will give it another try next time.

Ghislaine, we are going to scare ourselves if we keep this up. smile:D I think my Frog God looks like some of the Inca carvings. He is sort of friendly looking.

Gene, as sais Mardar "So glad you came over to have fun with us."

I like your images. The guy you have made comes from a person that has experience with Sculptris. That is why Mardar and I have created monsters. But one day, the esperience will be there and it will be possible to get some beautiful guys like yours. The fact is that we have to much fun with monsters for now and we are so glad to have discover this soft... very different than the others that I have in my pc.

I have a little problem with the purple monster. It is because after painting it, it was impossible to recover the first skin. I think that after painting it, we cannot undo or go back on the image. I did not yet consult the guide. It is not so evident by the english langage to understand all correctly. But with prectice, I will become better, I guess.

I will put another monster today when I get time.

I'm adding a golden bug to go with your germ. It looks like his underbelly. smile:D I did this by using a different material to sculpt with.

Mardar ... Not drinking is a very good life choice ... I must admit good music or tiki bars make me thirsty for some brew ... But, Mick Jagger and blacklights????
Hummmmmm makes me wonder ..... I like the gold bug. Reminds me of the worlds first detective story written by Edgar Allen Poe .... Materials sure can be fun.

Ghislaine ... Your green dude is about the same color of my car. Love those spooky eyes ... I never think of my guys as being beautiful. When I used to work in real clay I never could get pretty clean lines in my work and that has carried over to my Sculptris work.

This is still not a monster, but I think he is kinda spooky. I did the highlighting and shading in Photo Shop this time. i used Leaf Pile filter by Lareieli for the front/back. I used Film Frame filter by Vladimir Golovin for the framing.(that is another filter I use a lot) I call him: "Leaf Pile Fairy"

LOL Gene I didn't say I never drank! I have downed a few brews in my younger days. I'm a good girl, but not that good. smile:D Love your leaf fairy. He seems to be peaking out to spy on the neighbors. I like the way you dressed him up in PS. The framing is perfect.

I had forgotten about that Edgar Allen Poe story "The Gold Bug". I read that many moon ago. Always loved his writings.

Oh and before I forget, I got my shirts today. They are so much more wonderful in person than what I saw on your store front. The graphics are spectacular. I showed them to my hubby and the first thing he said was "Where's my shirts?" lol So it seems you have another fan, and I get to go shop some more. smile:D

Ghislaine, you and I must think alike. You make germs and I make bugs. lol smile:D I have another face to post tomorrow. It isn't scarey, but I think it turned out really well.

OK, the story of my little fairy elf guy is that he hides in leaf piles so he can watch humans and sometimes the things they do really scare him ....

Mardar .... Glad you like your shirts. It is nice to hear someone getting enjoyment from my work ..... I've got a sun face just like that on my deck. I love those things. You got a great rusty metal look.

Ghislaine ... You work too much. You gotta play more. Waiting for your inca ....

I was digging in my yard and I found this old stone that looked like it had a face on it. I think it is a relic of some very old ice age indian tribe ... April fool ... Oh man what kind of juvenile am I? I used my Color Corrode filter to age this guy. (It is another filter I designed just for that purpose) Then I applied my Color Texture Emboss to create a rougher surface. My Alien Ice Storm was used for the background and Kraellin's Frosty Morning Window 1 was used for the frame. I did all that to hide the fact that this sculpture was kinda raw ......

I can do noses and eye brows really quick, but the mouth I keep messing up. You do really cool mouths on yours sculptures. I need to practice some more on that.

Thanks Morgantao, I really liked the sun man too. and I think you are correct Ghislaine's god looks like a moon. And while I'm here, why don't you add a monster too. Come on and join the fun.

Ghislaine. you and I are thinking alike again. We must be sending mind links to each other. LOL Love that Inca god. He's a keeper. smile;)

Ghislaine .... Your Inca reminds me of those Tin mask you can get at flea markets near the Mexican border, but lt looks like it's made of nicer metal. The black eyes really set it off. It is more whimsical than mean looking, but that make it so much more fun.

Mardar ... Great teeth ... It took me a long time to get teeth .. yours are really good ... a human face has an area below the nose that sticks out (the jaw protudes out)and the mouth is cut into it. But, these monsters are not human, they can any mouth you want them to have. Also you and Ghislaine have really perfected how to use the pull brush. The eyebrows are a nice touch. As MadDogMike says: "Life is short, smile while you still have your teeth"

This is either an alien pig or a four legged vampire. I did pottery for a long time and I still try to give my sculpts a nice glaze. That is why I use all those texture making filters, but you guys already get that. I added a little of my Emboss Impressionism filter on Ghislaine's Cosmic clousd for the background and we all know where the frame came from ......

LOL Gene your pig is fantastic!! I love that his feet look so realistic. No mistaking those toes. He looks like he is down on the farm with Ghislaine's background. smile:D The "glaze" you did on him is almost the same as a pair of lamps my sister-in-law made for me in pottery class. You really know your glaze textures.

Thanks for the tip on making the mouth. I was trying to carve the mouth out of the orb without pulling out the chin and cheek bones first. smile;)

My teeth were just flat until I shaded them in my paint program. That took a long time to do, but I liked how they turned out, so it was worth the time spent.

You really dressed up that frame that was made by that filter builder that doesn't know squat about building filters. LOL I love what you did with my star. You made it so special. smile;)

The program is crashing for me too sometime, even if I'm not painting. I think that it chashing when there is to much triangles. The thing I do it is to save my work often during I'm working with sculptris, in case... So I do not loode all the work that I have done. And if you start to paint, you cannot come back to grab or... Gene can help more than I on this program.

Here is my latest Monster. A very scary Gargoyle.

Carl and Ghislaine I have had some issues also with crashing or slowing down of the program. It really eats cpu. I did try doing a couple of things last night to improve things. In the options menu I turned off the button that says "Save with aa" (anti-alias) and in the main screen I also moved the "Detail" down a bit on the brush settings. Less detail equals less triangles. Try tweaking this and see if it helps. I did have an easier time last night after doing both these steps.

And I also thought there was no "undo' in this program, but after reading the directions, I found that if you hit "ctrl+z that you can "undo" up to 11 times, They really should put an undo button on the main screen. smile;)

This guy isn't a monster, unless he is secretly a mass murderer. LOL

I wanted to put him up here to see if you all thought the mouth and lower face looked better. I have trouble making realistic looking mouths. I think he is much better than some of my earlier attempts. His eyes are set to far apart, but making mistakes is how we learn. smile;) Any feedback is welcome.

And here he is with a little coloring.

Ghislaine .... You sure make some strange creatures .... That alien would be a cool party guest.

Carl ... as Mardar says this program really works a computer. Details eat up resources. After you work awhile hit the W button and see all those tiny triangles. It takes a lot of memory for all that detail. The number of triangles is shown in the lower left corner of the interface. You can use the Reduce brush to smooth out those triangles and if you are carful you will not lose much detail. and, also as she said you don't have to turn the detail slider all the way up at first, only when you get into smaller detail ... I use a dual core laptop with win7 and I don't have much trouble, but as Ghislaine said I do save often to be safe.

Mardar ... The guy with the long teeth looks like one of my inlaws. He is a fun guy. I think you are getting mouths pretty good. One nice thing is that once get a mouth that looks right you can use the grab brush to shape and resize it. I do everything the lazy way.

Mardar, Both the gargoyle and the mass murdurer show progress in the mouth design.
The mass murderer could use more of a chin, though. The jaw line on the gargoyle is good, but the mass murderer's jaw is a little small.

Mardar, don't worry for the mouth or the nose, ect. You are much better than I and you are getting better each time you post a new image. Thanks for the informations. This will help to get less triangles and less crashes. Your gargoyle and the murder... well done! smile:)

Gene, about the brushes, can you explain me a little ? What to do with that, when I click on brush, the window shows me a choise : get more brush, etc and I do not know what to do. Do I have to choose brushes in my photo editor? I'm lost with this fonction. Your textured guy is well done. smile;)

Gene you latest guy is wonderful. Love the texture, color and those big eyes really give him caricature. He does remind me of a muppet as Morgantao said. You should put him on one of your t-shirt with him saying "Party at my house". lol He looks like a party animal. smile:D

Morgantao, thanks for the feedback. He is a bit weak in the chin. That may be why he murders so many people. lol I did like how the chin came out on my gargoyle. I learn something new ever time I try this. And it doesn't hurt that it is fun too. smile;)

Ghislaine, your fish is awesome. I love how you got so much detail in him just by moving the clay. His little black eye is perfect too. I need to try something besides faces next time. You have inspired me. smile;) smile:love:

Morgantao and Mardar ... I do think I was scared by a muppet as a child ... Yes they had muppet when I was a child ... I think it was the Steve Allen Show.(I can hear you all saying:"Who's Steve Allen?") .. Now if I want to be scared I just check in on this thread .... Mardar ... Thanks for the T-shirt idea. I thought he was too weird for that but I like your idea .....

Ghislaine ... The brushes are in the texture folder of Sculptris. The program never seems to land on the folder you want. You just click on the empty brush labled "New" and move to the Sculptris Alpha 6 folder. There you will find a folder called textures. There you find a collection of brushes. You can use any jpg or png image as a brush. You don't want too big of one, but when using a brush in paint even a color image can be used. I usually bring one of the presets into Photo Shop, change it a bit, and save it under another name. Hope this was clear ......

Ghislaine ... I really liked your fish and your last guy was super cool. I like that his nose and mouth were basically human, but his eyes are floating around out front. The material is perfect. He looks like a science experiment gone very wrong....

Carl, if you open in your computer Program files/Pixologic/Sculptris Alpha 6. You will find a PDF file marked Sculptris_Alpha6_Documentation. Open that in Adobe reader and it gives several basic instructions on how to use the program. Also at the end it gives a bunch of hotkey short cuts to use with it. I am like you, I need buttons. lol Never was crazy about hotkey short cuts. I could never remember them all.
