I sometimes use displacement modeling (using a Displacement/Bump map to "carve" the object). The results show up in the modeling/rendering process, but won´t export along with the model. Does anyone know if there is any application out there that can actually export the displacement modeling along with the object?

Hi
Well, a displacement map only alters geometry at rendertime, it doesn't become 'part' of the mesh...that's the beauty of it. If that was the case, your models polygon count would increase vastly, possibly exponentially (depending on current mesh subdivision), making it extremely difficult to use or even export Your obviously wanting to render this object in an application that can't handle, displacement, or else you'd just use the displacement map - is that correct !? I'm pretty sure that what your asking for is not possible, Although ZBrush just might be able to do something similar, but don't quote me on that. here's the URL Pixologic's ZBrush Just checked, ZBrush cannot do what your asking, but it can export a displacement map of any sculpting you do whilst in the app, i.e. you can add, say, creases and folds to your model and export those details as one or more displacement map/s ready for use in another 3D app That's all the help I can give I'm afraid Good luck J |
