I have decided to make this compilation of all the tutorials and websites that I may find and explains and show how to use and be able to get the most out of the powerful Blend Modes in different softwares and how to create artistic things with them in different ways.

You are welcome also to put any related website about this topic here

I am planning to make a MULTIPLE (with up to 5) blend Modes filter in FF that is not available anywhere and could make interesting and awesome things in a cool way

Blend Modes are available here in Filter Forge, in Photoshop, Affinity photo, in many other 2D and 3D software and is also used in scripting and coding (see the third link below) and they work all in the same way independently of the software used as far as I know, so it does not matter if you do not have Photoshop, you at least have FF

Blend Modes are really a very powerful tool to mix and merge images with very interesting results and depending on how you use them you can get very artistic things, or use them as adjustments, or to sharpen or modify colors, etc.

Here is Explained the blend Modes separated in groups for you to understand better

BLEND MODES IN FF

In FF instead of layers you have the Blend mode component that will mix two sources with the selected blend mode, and you can use if wanted multiple blend modes components combined or inside bomber with multiple sources

As regrettably FF still does not have any drop down menu for choosing blend modes so the workaround I have found is to have this printed list with the number and blend mode reference for you to download and print shown here below

I also this filter to use selective blend modes in FF

Photoshop Blend Modes Explained

In this article I’m going to give you a high-level view of what the various blend modes do, and then I’ll dig deeper into the nuts and bolts of the blend modes by explaining some of the math involved, and their interrelationships with each other. I’m not going to “show” you how the blend modes work—I’m going to “explain” how they work. By the time you finish reading this article, you should have a better idea of how to use blend modes and where to begin your “experimentation,” which in turn should reduce the time it takes to achieve the results you’re looking for.

Maybe you may be thinking in the normal and most used way of Blend Modes used with 100% opacity and 100% Fill that is mostly how is used in Filter Forge and many of the video tutorials, BUT is important to remember that at least in Photoshop and other software you have the ability to modify how much the Blend mode is shown with the Opacity or Fill

For this to be understood much better, here is a really great example with a 5 grayscale gradient table

The Ultimate Visual Guide to Understanding Blend Modes (with Opacity) examples for each blend mode

It includes also a video tutorial

You can think of texturing as a simple type of compositing, and the first thing you need to understand when creating composite images is Blend Modes. If you google “Blend Modes in Photoshop” you’re going to get a lot of technical tutorials that may be hard to understand. To simplify things, we made what we are calling “the Ultimate Visual Guide” to help you understand the basics of Blend Modes so you can quickly be on your way to creating great composite images with textures.

Here bellow is shown how they blend a greyscale stripes with a photo and apply opacity modified

HOW TO REMEMBER ALL OF BLEND MODES AND THEIR INTERACTION?

Maybe you may think that you can not be able to remember all of them, but you do not have to do it at start and there is a way to do it in Photoshop (and maybe also in other software) that will help you experiment and try directly

I Can't Remember All This!
Relax and take a deep breath. After all, you're working with the limitless potential of Photoshop so there isn't just one solution to solving your problems. Trial and error is a huge part of the process.

Try this:

If you want to experiment with a blend mode but are not sure which one to choose, apply the color onto the canvas, and click on the Normal option. Notice how the blend mode stays selected? Now use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to switch through the different blend modes until you find the one that works best.

Als9 you can change the Opacity or Fill amount and try again
