Hello,

I have seen that are some interesting artistic and design art software applications that are very good for MacOS but the problem is that they ARE NOT available for Windows 7 and according to the developers, they do not have any plan to make them available to Windows soon.

So I have been searching for a MacOS X (10.5) emulator or virtual machine for Windows so I could run MacOS software in my windows without having to buy a Mac computer, but is difficult to find information about it.

I have found lots of information of the "reverse", I mean to be able to run windows virtual machine in MacOS, but not run MacOS on Windows.

I know is possible to do it but do not know how to do it.

So I am asking if anyone have already tried it and that it works well.

I am ONLY going to use it for just 2 or 3 software that needs to be run on MacOS and nothing else.

Thanks very much for any help

Well I will name some basics but I will not talk about it here since its a very grey area...So no links supplied as well...Also when dealing with Osx running on an emulator you are getting into violating Apples License...With that in mind there is....

PEARPC...Which is a PPC emulator...Which can run OSX(ppc)..Pather and Linux ppc flavors.....The emulator is slow but I have not tested it in many years....

Then of course there is the Hackintosh which can be run on x86 hardware and inside of emulators......Its not for the faint at heart to set up and some of the hardware in the computer may not function since its unsupported hardware and may be a pain in the rear to find drivers/kexts for......

FOR CFandM and JesusSheep

Thanks very much CFandM and JesusSheep for the information and suggestion, I will take a look at it and see what can be done with this.

I have just seen that MacOS X Mountain Lion ONLY costs $19.95 ??? smile:?:

Of course, this can be a much better way and more compatible and faster smile:D BUT the little and slightly problem is the PRICE of the expensive Mac computers (3000$ to 4500$ for a MacPro), unless you buy a MacMini for around 500$ or 600$

Although it seems according to the information and texts I have seen, that is much easier to emulate and have a Windows inside a Mac than to have a Mac inside a Windows, so it could be better to buy a Mac and then install Windows and have both smile8), but as now I already have a PC with Windows, and the equivalent and equal power and speed in a Mac would be more expensive (about 2000-2500$) than what I can pay now.

RENT A MAC INSTEAD

I have found a possibly interesting solution to be able to use a Mac computer just ocassionally and much cheaper than buying one (in the short period).

This is a service that is called Mac in Cloud that lets you rent a mac computer for you and be able to install the software you need to work with.

VMware --virtual machine type bsd 64 bit
boot loader efi
There are specific Hard drive settings as well but there are quite a few examples on the internet of people getting even the latest builds of OS X running on vmware
lets all whine for a wine port

Thanks for your answers JesusSheep and voldemort

As put in the title of this thread, please, if anyone is already using a Mac emulator on windows and works well, would like to know how you have done it, and if you have used a hacked MacOS to do it or not

Thanks very much for any help

I suposse that you are refering to Oracle´s VirtualBox that is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware and is free to use, although it seems that you can´t use this with a legal and genuine MacOS Mountain Lion disc bought on the Mac Store, and needs to be hacked before using it, and I do not want to download a hacked version of it, as I do not trust in it.

And also needs to use more additional software to be able to hack Virtualbox as it is not directly compatible with MacOs

I do not know what OS Lepeard is, unless you mean using MacOS Leopard with VirtualBox

I want to be able to use a legal MacOS original disc to use as it is only about $19.95 (or maybe 20 Euros here)

Maybe I should wait for the new MacOS Maverick that is coming this fall as advertised

I have not been able to find a easy way to use VMware for installing MacOS as the ones I found needs to make some more advanced and complex things or in the same way, use a hacked version of MacOS and/or not legal software that I do not trust.

Will have to search more about this

Well to be blunt on this subject....Respectively of course... smile:)
SR...There are many things that you have posted that would lead me to think that if this all seems a little complicated in procedures to install OSX on non apple hardware then perhaps you should not do it....There will be no easy solution for you to install OSX....Waiting for the new Maverick version will not help matters since in that case it might be the same situation for installing as it is right now for installing all other OSX systems......

Another thing to keep in mind is even though you will have a legal disc of the apple operating system it will be installed on unsupported non-apple hardware so you would be out of luck on apple support... smile;)......and again this is a grey area of legality...

As far as hacked....You cannot just put in an install disc of OSX and find it to work and install....OSX installs with the help of some kind of hack or modification to the system itself. the install dvd, or some type of other boot CD method to even begin to load an install DVD of OSX...

Thanks for your answer and comments CFandM and I agree with you that this is the way to do it and there is no easy way as it happens in windows emulator for MacOS.

I do not care about apple support for MacOS, as I will surely not use it, or I will not upgrade it unless absolutely needed

Yes I know that you can´t just put an official and legal MacOS X and install it in VirtualBox, VMware or whatever other way that is possible without first hacking and modifying it as it would not work.

I have seen today that there are new ways to install MacOs Mountain Lion in Windows but as you say, all depend in using a "distro" MacOS X that is really a hacked version.

So I will have to search more and see what can I find and see what would be the best option for me and that I can do it.

Also I have seen that the MacOS emulation will not work in any hardware, and must be a hardware compatible, and mainly with an newer intel CPU and a good newer GPU that is also supported by MacOS.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you do install OSX read carefully about what system you are installing...I say this because one of the things that does happen is you may mess up your osx system when updating....Its not really point and click update on non-apple hardware....It took me a couple of tries and a couple of re-installs of the system to make the updates work....I still have an old p4 that I installed osx on that I use from time to time... smile;) smile:)
