You said that Photofont Start has a limit of 480 pixels for fonts... How would one use the high res fonts then?
I know you found a work around, but how would one use the high res fonts otherwise? |

The key is going to be using larger high res images. The code can be changed (edited to reflect larger sizes), if that's what you want.
I probably will add a couple different phf files that reflect that range in image size. Not everyone will understand or want to mess with editing code so i will write one for high res (2000x2000), and the original for 1000x1000 pixel glyphs. The one i am working on now uses 1000x1000 but only 500x700 pixel area within the xml code.Because that is all i need to show the entire glyph.500 wide by 700 high.
Photofont Start will just re-size any image you use to reflect 480 max pixels. The higher the image res the better the font is going to look at re-size. ![]() I have not studied all the parameters of the code yet.I can not change what the plugin does i do not have the C code to re-compile it after changing it. Perhaps the creator can re-compile it to except high res images. Then again that is probably why it's free. ![]() Rod

When you get a free meal don't expect it to be a red lobster and beluga caviar ![]() The question is, do they have a commercial (non free) plugin, instead of Start, that can handle high res? |

I am not sure if they make a better plugin or not.If they do it probably isn't free.
I found this today when i sat down to finish up on the installer. http://www.slanted.de/node/1361 This is quite amazing. Each image is taken of the sky between buildings while looking up. A few are warped in Photo Shop i believe but most are all natural, and not edited except for re-size. ![]() Rod

You are welcome.
![]() Version 1.5 released ![]() http://www.gimpchat.com/download/file.php?id=4736 Added @, #, and ^ to the code. ![]() Also Microsoft see's a.png and A.png as the same file so you need to create another folder inside the images folder name it nonCaps. The code already reflects the change in the new release. Also i added a small suprise.A whole photofont glyph folder with my newest font named Broken Blue Bevel! Not the prettiest but with a little clean up it would look pretty cool.Maybe i will use Robs new solidify filter for Gimp on it and re-release it. ![]() If you guys create any cool looking glyphs i would appreciate a shout out for a download link. ![]() Thanks! Thanks very much BUT I am sorry that I may be silly and clumsy, but I have not understood the instructions made by Rod_D.
![]() ![]() As I see it, you NEED to use GIMP to make the photofonts, and as I have never used GIMP, I am a little lost. Photoshop ALSO can export to layers, so if I convert the XCF to PSD could I use it inside Photoshop and make the same thing ? |

I really couldn't tell you what happened to that E.
I have also released a newer version 2.0 that should fix kerning and baseline. Download it at Gimp Chat. @ SpaceRay - you do not have to use Gimp to create your images. The XCF template is just to help you with designing them quickly.Using Paths and stroke path with a brush. Gimp is open source FREEWARE though so you may want to give it a try. If you have questions just come to Gimp Chat. You will find tons of helpful Gimpers and tons of tutorials.Or i can help you here. You can make them in any graphics program you like though. If you have PhotoShop you could create a PSD file and just add each text layer.BUT you won't have paths for each text glyph.PhotoShop doesn't support XCF files either. I still am waiting for my Photo Objects software(snail mail) So i ordered Font Twister http://www.neuber.com/twister/index.html ,and it's pretty amazing for creating these fairly quickly. It costs 49 USD.I bought this one. There is also Photon 3D Go (which is not supported anymore so you can't register it sadly). But if you use the Fast Stone screen capture tool you can create the fonts at the highest size it allows for the trial version on a white bg and then just use Fast Stone capture and go to Edit>remove bg.You then get a pretty decent glyph on transparency.3D Go has tons of cool bevel and color options.I wish i could buy the full version.Photon 3D Go website no longer exists. You can get the trial here http://www.brothersoft.com/3d-go-12676.html i have contacted the developers and am waiting for a reply. I made the Broken Blue Bevel font with 3D Go. ![]() Rod

Perhaps i am lost because the main instructions it seems that are for MAKING the images of the fonts and then export them as layers.
What happens if you have ALREADY DONE the fonts in another program (I have used Shape Collage to make the fonts shown below)and you already have them in separate files ? Perhaps the template is for making the fonts with an determined exactly dimensions and sizes and so all have the same size. Sorry to ask again this but, How do you convert the image font glyph files into the PHF font file? As said above I have made this fonts below using single photos of ice cubes and used the Letters shapes so the Shape Collage software automatically places and makes the distribution of the ice cubes and you can control the spacing and tightness, and how many you want to have inside. AND if you have the commercial version you have the option to have each one of the ice cubes as PSD layers so you move and rearrange them as you want and need. ![]() |

SpaceRay, basically all you have to do now is put all the letters inside the the folder with the PHF file.
Once you install the Photofont Start plugin it creates a folder where your photosonts will be stored. (I haven't tested it on Win7 yet, but in WinXP it's in My Documents\Photofonts). Put the PHF file Rod made in that folder. Also create a new folder in there, and name it "images". Now every font you want to use you just put inside the images folder. If you want to use another font, replace the contents of images folder. You don't have to change the PHF or create a new one, just replace the images. One question Rod - When I make the glyphs, what size are they supposed to be (in pixels)? |

BEFORE you read on make sure you have installed version 2.0
It has the code changes for the new folder "nonCaps", the new kerning and baseline adjustments, and added unicodes and glyph blocks.
Yes but that is only if you use the Gimp template and the SCM script to export all layers as PNG files.Just makes it a bit easier. The easiest way is to open your favorite graphics editor, create a 1000x1000 canvas.Add guides so the glyph size is around 640 high by 480 wide.Create a text layer of a CAPITOL A, and use any style design. Now save the image as A.png in the C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserFolder\My Documents\Photofonts\images folder. Run the plugin and choose the Non_Embedded_PHF font in the list. Type a CAP A and you should see your glyph. Now just create all your glyph images and save them in that same folder. EXCEPT the small letters. Those need to go in a NEW folder INSIDE the images folder named "nonCaps" So you will have this directory - C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserFolder\My Documents\Photofonts\images\nonCaps All symbols and CAPITOL letters go in the images folder All small letters go in the nonCaps folder. ![]()
Yes but i am working on another PHF file for bigger images.
I would stick with a 1000x1000 canvas with 640 high x 480 wide glyphs for now. ![]() That should be okay.If not holler at me. SpaceRay i still need to add more unicodes and glyph blocks for things like your upside down question mark. That image wont work until i do....sorry Rod

SpaceRay for those ICE images you created do this...
Open them all in your graphics editor as layers. Resize them all at one time to 640 high x 480 wide. Now save each layer as a separate PNG image. They must be named according to what they are A.png B.png C.png D.png exclam.png period.png question.png comma.png ... and so forth small letters if you make any will go in the nonCaps folder and be named a.png b.png c.png and so forth Open the PSPPI-README and look at the image id map i placed at the bottom each id is what the image name HAS to be for the code to see the glyph. IMAGE NAME GUIDE - MAP ID IS ALSO IMAGE NAME - just add the png extension. For instance map id="A" means this images name is A.png (it IS case sensitive!) map id="bracketright" means this images name is bracketright.png <map id="A" unc="65" /> <map id="B" unc="66" /> <map id="C" unc="67" /> <map id="D" unc="68" /> <map id="E" unc="69" /> <map id="F" unc="70" /> <map id="G" unc="71" /> <map id="H" unc="72" /> <map id="I" unc="73" /> <map id="J" unc="74" /> <map id="K" unc="75" /> <map id="L" unc="76" /> <map id="M" unc="77" /> <map id="N" unc="78" /> <map id="O" unc="79" /> <map id="P" unc="80" /> <map id="Q" unc="81" /> <map id="R" unc="82" /> <map id="S" unc="83" /> <map id="T" unc="84" /> <map id="U" unc="85" /> <map id="V" unc="86" /> <map id="W" unc="87" /> <map id="X" unc="88" /> <map id="Y" unc="89" /> <map id="Z" unc="90" /> <map id="a" unc="97" /> <map id="ampersand" unc="38" /> <map id="asterisk" unc="42" /> <map id="at" unc="64" /> <map id="b" unc="98" /> <map id="braceleft" unc="123" /> <map id="braceright" unc="125" /> <map id="bracketleft" unc="91" /> <map id="bracketright" unc="93" /> <map id="c" unc="99" /> <map id="colon" unc="58" /> <map id="comma" unc="44" /> <map id="d" unc="100" /> <map id="degree" unc="176" /> <map id="dollar" unc="36" /> <map id="e" unc="101" /> <map id="eight" unc="56" /> <map id="equal" unc="61" /> <map id="exclam" unc="33" /> <map id="f" unc="102" /> <map id="five" unc="53" /> <map id="four" unc="52" /> <map id="g" unc="103" /> <map id="greater" unc="62" /> <map id="h" unc="104" /> <map id="hyphen" unc="45" /> <map id="i" unc="105" /> <map id="j" unc="106" /> <map id="k" unc="107" /> <map id="l" unc="108" /> <map id="less" unc="60" /> <map id="m" unc="109" /> <map id="multiply" unc="215" /> <map id="n" unc="110" /> <map id="numbersign" unc="35" /> <map id="nine" unc="57" /> <map id="o" unc="111" /> <map id="one" unc="49" /> <map id="p" unc="112" /> <map id="parenleft" unc="40" /> <map id="parenright" unc="41" /> <map id="percent" unc="37" /> <map id="period" unc="46" /> <map id="plus" unc="43" /> <map id="q" unc="113" /> <map id="question" unc="63" /> <map id="quoteleft" unc="8216" /> <map id="quoteright" unc="8217" /> <map id="quotesingle" unc="39" /> <map id="r" unc="114" /> <map id="s" unc="115" /> <map id="semicolon" unc="59" /> <map id="seven" unc="55" /> <map id="six" unc="54" /> <map id="slash" unc="47" /> <map id="space" unc="32" /> <map id="t" unc="116" /> <map id="three" unc="51" /> <map id="two" unc="50" /> <map id="u" unc="117" /> <map id="v" unc="118" /> <map id="w" unc="119" /> <map id="x" unc="120" /> <map id="y" unc="121" /> <map id="z" unc="122" /> <map id="zero" unc="48" /> Hope that helps you more. Sorry is true, I did not go to the first post. Thanks.
I think that if you know how to program a plugin, you will also be able to rewrite one that is already available. Although if it is commercial you could problems with the company and the copyright, but probably as this is a FREE plugin and is not done for earning money it could be possible if you know what to do and how to do it. |

As far as I can see an 8bf plugin file is a pre-compiled file. Just like you can't take an EXE file and edit it, even if you're a programer, I don't see how it's done with the plugin.
Unless there's a plugin extractor or something that lets you decompile the 8bf back to source code... |

I have been a little busy lately Spaceray. Sorry about that.
![]() The actual filter i am creating will be the same type, an Adobe 8bf exe file. I still need to contact Photofonts website Admin and ask for some info on the first plug-in. For now you will need to use the XML/PHF file i provided. Just be sure and place the image files in the correct folder. If you wish you can use a separate XML/PHF file for each set of fonts you create. This way you can have individual settings for baseline, x and y location, and other settings within the glyph tags. Just make separate folders for each , edit the XML/PHF file for the different folder location/directory, and install as normal.Keep in mind you will have to adjust EVERY glyph tag to do it that way. This is why i created a default PHF/XML file for them all that uses just 1 directory location. As soon as i get some more accomplished with the 8bf plug-in i will let you know. Basically i just want to be able to use larger HD glyph images (no size limit). For this i will have to create a new plug-in (8bf filter). ![]() I will keep you informed. Thanks SpaceRay Rod

No and they probably won't release one.Nor will they give me the corrections in the code for larger HD glyphs. Not enough interest in bitmap Webfonts right now.For one they can't for the most part be spidered for SEO (search engine optimization), and they can get quite large on a web page in weight size for downloading into a browser. Most of their concern is directed towards better font creation software.
Coffeecup software now releases a version of Website Font that creates any swf text block from any user font. These can be searched and are much smaller. For instance i created this with Coffeecup Website Font maker - http://www.simplygimp.com/swf/wsfpreview4011.html you can copy this text to any text editor just like any regular text, but its fancy looking like bitmap fonts are. ![]() 8BF Design Alex, the owner and originator of the Filter Meister program (the one that builds 8bf files), has been moving towards a better and easier design interface. Possibly a 64 bit adaption as well. I have begun to add TRUE PHF files to my Blog that you can download and install into PhotoFont Start right away.True PHF files no images needed. They are embedded. Here is the first one, and i have 2 more like this to add soon. http://simplygimp.com/downloads/zip/S...one_RD.zip 2 more steampunk fonts and one named Shattered text will be uploaded within the week. Webfonts? Sorry but webfonts ? It was going to be available a online tool to make Photofonts in the same way that is possible now with Bitfonter, I mean is the same software, only that instead of buying the very expensive one, you only pay a small part for using it online when you want and need. I have seen that there are two other companies that are already available and sucessfull offering thousands of fonts that are converted through their plugin to webfonts to be used on the server of your website. Sorry that I do not remember now the name of these companies. BUT this are only PLAIN one color fonts, the same as used by the System fonts in Windows or MacOS. 8BF Design Good news and seems interesting. I will see it Thanks |
