I have thought of making a list of the available 3D Render Engines as some of you are interested in making 3D creations (I do not do them but want to learn) and could perhaps be useful.
I have found this page that have a large list of 3D render Engines http://www.3d-animation.com.ar/3d_sof...nes_01.php 4 of the most known and famous I have seen personally in many places are these ones here below If you put the names of these render engines on www.youtube.com you will get many videos about them ___________________________________________________________________ Octane Render - GPU BASED---> http://www.refractivesoftware.com/index.php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_Render http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bg_IxQFGMg ___________________________________________________________________ http://www.maxwellrender.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell_Render ___________________________________________________________________ http://www.luxrender.net/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LuxRender ___________________________________________________________________ http://www.indigorenderer.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo_Renderer ___________________________________________________________________ What is a 3D render engine ? Very short answer A 3D rendering engine is an additional software that renders out the 3D graphics for a program based off of the models and textures this 3D program provides. Used in replacement of the render engine that is already included in the 3D software host, and is used because it can give faster and better quality renders with more photo realistic effects than the render engine inside the 3D software ____________________________________________________________________ ONLINE RENDERING ENGINES WITH POWERFUL RENDER FARMS http://www.rebusfarm.net/

Sorry, I was really going to put it inside this list but I went to the www.mentalimages.com for mental ray and thought that it was much more for very professional companies and important corporations and not for normal consumers.
Also was going to add Vray, but I have seen that from my point of view and what I have seen it has lost some popularity in comparison to others. Anyway this two ARE included in the list of the first link, so they are not missing |

"normal consumers" *ahem*
If you're investing in external render engines you either have issues with the default render engine or you just want to tryout a newer render engine just because. That to me, doesn't sound like a normal consumer. Sounds like a person who's already pretty into doing 3D stuff. ![]() |

I did not say that the main reason I personally have seen that many people use external render engines is because they can give better quality and sometimes faster, and can achieve better photo realistic renders that is not posible with the default render engine. Also you can have more better materials and lighting.
THE LINK BETWEEN RENDER ENGINES AND FILTER FORGE I forgot to tell also that I have started this thread because there is also a link to FF, as one of the uses that FF have as shown on the main FF website homepage is 3D materials and textures ![]() and also have made a new thread for sharing things about FF and 3D Who is using FF textures and filters for 3D models and 3D creations ?
Sorry that I did not include this (is on the first link anyway) but from my own experience from point 1 and point 2 users below, this two are not popular and frequently used. I may be of course wrong, because I am not at all any expert in 3D, and I think you are much better than me ___________________________________________________
After writing "normal consumer" I knew some of you will not agree ![]() Let´s see, for me there are 4 kind of 3D users 1 - The normal consumer or hobby users 2 - "Normal users" that work for profit 3 - 3D Business Professionals 4 - Very big companies and corporations ___________________________________________________ 1 - The normal consumer or hobby users that have a domestic computer and do 3D renders because of pleasure and that want to make his own designs for it´s own or to show them on internet and 3D galleries. This does not get any pofit. I can tell you that this users use also external render engines, as the software they use is also not one of the high level 3D software and is inexpensive compared to the high priced others. In this you can include: Daz Studio 4.0 Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 Bryce 7.0 Pro Blender Google Sketchup Any other 3D software available for home or hobby users, free or paid. e-onsoftware Vue 10 has versions available for both worlds, cheap one for 3D Enthusiasts and 3D Artists and the expensive version for 3D professional that need much more Daz Studio have a Bridge for render engines of Lux Render and Octane render, and have seen there is a workaround to use Indigo Ray. There are some for Poser too. Some of this persons are happy to pay for the bridge software and pay for the render engine, even when they do not get any profit from it and is just for hobby. There are many thousands of this kind in these software 3D forums told above, and they are happy to pay and spend much money, and even thousands of $$$$ (in a year) in 3D models, 3D clothing, 3D hair, 3D Arquitecture, props, scenes, etc.... And also pay for the render engines but do not want to pay for expensive 3D software like Cinema 4D and also because they find this too complex to use. Also there are lots of available 3D models for free mainly thinking on the ones that can´t afford to buy them and do not do 3D for profit RENDEROSITY WEBSITE If you see in the right part of the forum there is a banner for "RENDEROSITY", please go there and you will see many thousands of "normal users" of this point 1 and also many of the point 2 below Why they are paying for another render engine?
Very well said and I agree, they are having issues and some problems with the included render engine in the software and want to try another newer render engine that gives better photo realistic quality and is sometimes faster as it happens with octane render, because from what I have been reading Lux render is slower than the default render engine BUT gives much better higher quality. ____________________________________________________ 2 - "Normal users" that work for profit selling 3D designs, models, clothings, props, textures, etc. for the 3D world and mainly for the 3 first software above that are not oriented necessarily to professionals, mostly for the number 1 users, because there are thousands that want to buy, this is a very good business but also for profeesionals of number 3 below ____________________________________________________ 3 - 3D Business Professionals - Many kind of 3D professionals that their living is based on this kind of business and work full time on this, and sell their creations and 3D works for others or work in or for a company or agency. Also there are in this one, many artistic profesisonals that make artworks to be sold in many places Also lots of freelancer and independent professional workers are her Here is a very wide market and levels of quality needed and here time is money and they could use the software on point one (I know some that do it) mainly because their needs are not complex and they want a easier software to use, and normally the money is not the reason to choose these software. Many other persons or companies choose professional 3D software, and they do not mind to spend on expensive 3D software because this is for profit and will get much more money _______________________________________________ 4 - Very big companies and corporations that spend HUGE amount of money on 3D because this is part of their businees, or the main part. One example is 3D companies that work for making 3D special effects for movies. Obviously they will not use the software of point 1 and even they spend lots of money to create their own software, or customize an alrady available one. And also could use some external rendering engine, or create their own. And of course they do not have simple computers, they have really very powerful and veryu expensive systems and even have their own render farms. |

I have to agree, there are different levels for 3d users and I think the first level would be those who use it for hobby, those who use it to earn small profit, those who work with companies as professionals and the bigger companies that come up with images and renders used for something.
I think that you get the authority to use open source software if you are working on the first 2 levels but not for those who earn from it already. |

Hey guys.... Go to Secondlife and see how 3D Objects and Textures are making hobbyists rich. You don't need super high end movie professional programs to make money.
Blender is much more than a 3D Object modeler. |

I forgot: If you want a Free 3D object modeler that's the Grand-Daddy to all the modern programs, get Imagine3D. It started out for the Amiga around 1991/1992. It's easy to learn and gives OK results. it's at: www.imagine3d.org. it still has fanatical following.
