Just been tinkering around with some abstract backgrounds using part of the Leaf by design filter...Everyone knows how the tinkering goes
![]() ![]() ![]() This filter came out with interesting results that I'll use this for another gallery image...(Still in the works) ![]() ![]() Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |

very cool!
i've had a chance to mod it a bit and look around. i've sent you back my latest mod copy. check out the elevation gradients ![]() i mentioned in the email that you guys use offsets much better than i do. i guess i dont quite understand what they're doing and how they work. i know if you plug a control into horizontal or vertical that it will move the image globally by that much on the control. so, one control value is being applied across the whole. but, when you use another image to do the offset is it like overlaying the added image at the source and assigning a value to each of those pixels and then moving each of the other's pixels by that much? anyways, here's a sample from my mod. this is the default, so you can already see it. it took almost 11 minutes on my rig. why is this filter so slow? is it the offsets that are doing that? ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Pretty cool designs here, the edges probably won't ever be quite smooth/lined up perfectly, but the *looks* from a distance are pretty sci-fi victorian eh.

That Ashmir, always working hard and deserving of a break.. ![]() ![]() I agree with jffe, kinda victorian sci.. ![]() Playing with the offsets are kinda fun and seeing what they do.... ![]() You can even get the colors of an imge from offsets and elevation grads....Running an image through an offset and connect it to an ele grad then move the image horizonally to get the color...Open this filter and move the horizonal on the offset..The color is read at the upper right from the offset....Bigger images are read a little further down but still at the top of the offset... victorian sci-fi... i like that
![]() the edges could be worked out better with a bit of work... maybe. but i wouldnt know where to start with designs like this. CF has some fairly intricate stuff going on in there and what you did way back in the early parts of the routine would have large consequences in the latter parts, so yeah, working out the edges and such could get pretty tricky. more fun to just ignore them and keep making metal insects ![]() i tried that 'what colors' filter, CF. i replaced the 3 color grad with an image component and plugged in an image. i'm nearly as lost as ever on offsets. what is that thing reading? which color or which point is it reading to display just that one color? is it reading just the very center pixel or something, because when i also move the vertical offset, that will change the color also. i are confused. Oops sorry about confusing you Craig..
![]() ![]() ![]() I meant the top left, what was I thinking...It seems that its reading the pixel value at the top left which would be 0,0 or 0,1 on the monitor I think....Anyway heres an update with the elevation connected to the image and to the top left is the image in a small box a little bigger then a pixel but you get the idea.. ![]() ![]() What Colors Pixeled.ffxml Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |

thanks, CF. way smarter than me on this
![]() one nice thing about CF's filter is, with just small changes in the components you can make an almost infinite number of weird, strange and cool variations. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

indeed
![]() i've made quite a few mods of this thing. i still think your original image here is the best, but i've been quite hooked on making more and more mods. lol. i've cut the time down quite a bit, removing over half of what was there. in some versions i added more components and in others i removed stuff. this one is one where i removed stuff: ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
