a sort of courtyard tiling. not sure if i'll submit this one or not. needs work and does a couple odd things yet... plus the eula nonsense.

thanks, steve smile:)

yeah, it's got some interesting parts/concepts, but by itself isnt worth a lot as is... just a sort of interesting shape with an interesting surface and such. so, it's more a 'pure research' than a 'something i'd like in my texture portfolio' smile:)

Well, I'm proud to say that I've "borrowed" only two concepts from other author victims.....you were the first one with a part of "Glass Menagerie".....and CF was the second with part of his "Mystic Blur" filter used in my "DreamScape" series.....other than that, I'm innocent I tell you!!! smile;) smile:D LOL.....

.....or it was Carl!!! smile;) smile:D LOL.....

mmmmm LOL smile:)

its often lazyness [ time ] using snippets [ about 20% of my filters use snippets ] - I'd rather focus on the idea I'm working on - for example using a modified version of Dilla's scratches snippet saved me a couple of hours of fiddling allowing the time to be used to perfect " 12 Grunge FX " effects - you bastard, you made me defend myself smile:D

or

Snippet sole purpose in life is to be included - so I'm doing them a favour smile:D

or

I'm to thick to work out some of the clever snippets and I admirer uuk the way he can steal total filters get HU's and sleep at night - my next filter is "Rainbow Glass Monster Waterfalls" smile;) smile:D

Stop picking on me you bastards or I'm telling smile:evil: smile:D

there used to be a large rock near a streambed where we used to live. that thing was just loaded with small fossils. you could chip off small bits of the rock and there'd be yet more fossils exposed. this one sort of reminds me of that.

i dont know if you've ever seen sand painting before (it's really quite cool), but this one reminded me of it. dilla's gonna kill me, though, for adding a kaleidoscope to a perlin noise/noise lab type filter smile;)

ok, i had said i was re-visiting the waterfalls filter. well, here is the madness behind the master plan. you know i submitted the 'perfect arc' filter and that that led to the 'rainbow' filter, but what you may not have known was that all of that was inspired by the waterfall filter. i wanted to add a rainbow to it. when looking at the rainbow filters in the library, none really did the trick. so, i began doing one myself, but i couldnt get a good arc by conventional methods and i couldnt alter that arc and that led to the perfect arc filter. so, coming full circle here, i've now got my rainbow in the waterfall filter and i've added one of my rock filters for the background smile:)

now, this still isnt totally finished. i'm still debating surface or simple. i would LOVE to get the rock part as a surface for the depth and grain possible there, but doing that tends to mess up the water parts of this filter. i've made all sorts of adjustments to try to do that but it just isnt very workable, which is why i kept asking vlad to make us a depth component like in the results component. but, he seems to not like that idea because of the lighting environments. so, oh well, back to the drawing board.

when i make this a surface type, i pretty much lose all the depth to the rock because i have to tone things down drastically with that so as not to screw up the water. so, there's actually very little depth at all on this and i may have to just turn it back into a simple and lose the lighting stuff. not sure yet.

anyways, here's the most recent version image:

I think you have something with the rainbow.....maybe a filter that adds different types of realistic rainbows to pictures.....different opacities, angles, natural smooth end fades, haze, mist, rays of sunshine, etc......I think there are all kinds of things you could do that people would use for children's pictures etc..... smile:devil:

could you use a threshold and use it as a mask to feed into the height to only give the rock texture smile:)

ah, you guys like the rainbow. sounds like i need to work on the waterfall portion more, since the rainbow is all that is getting the comments smile;)

currently, if you look at the rainbow filter itself, you'll see it does do some of those things, steve. but, i do like the idea of the side fading and there are different ways i could seed the color spectrum. the current method doesnt scale; it only has 3 size settings. currently, if you move the rainbow left and right you get a wraparound effect that i could live without. so, some room for improvement there also.

i did seriously work on the waterfalls. it's faster now. i found a different way to seed some of those effects also. and as for the rock and height, i actually already have a threshold on the height, carl. it helps a tiny bit, but not really what i'd like it to be because i have to cut it down pretty heavily or it overpowers the water effects. i'll keep working on it. i did have some results by running the rock through a refraction, which has the height node, but it still wasnt as good as running things through the results component.

i think this is a filter i could work on for a year and still not have it just the way i'd like smile:)

No, I like the waterfall and the addition of the rainbow.....but I was just thinking that you could use the rainbow concept seperately from the waterfall..... smile;) smile:)

hi steve smile:)

yeah, i like this one, too. and, you wouldnt believe the number of prof grads in this thing smile;)

i'm working on a multiple pattern filter and experimenting with image size for more detail. i'm currently up to 2048 x 2048 at 25 anti-aliasing passes to get the detail and clarity i want.

the above pic didnt use that. that one's just 600 x 600 with anti-aliasing turned off, but pretty amazing detail for that. that one also reminds me the black glass filter i tried a while back.
