I don't mean to be "blowing my own horn" or anything like that..... smile:dgrin: .....but take a peek back 2 or 3 years at who first suggested non-tiling, spot lighting, vertical rotation on the HDRI sphere, and disconnecting the "Size/Pixels" control.....and you will find that it was yours truly.....me.....so Vlad can't think that I'm a total waste of space here..... smile;) smile:D LOL....

it would seem you have a stalker/fan, steve. he seems to follow you wherever you go in the forums smile;) smile:D

yeah, but i'll contend that vertical rotation on hdri. i think i first asked for that back when i started doing custom .exr's. but, i'm an old fart with a failing memory, so if you want to claim it i wont dispute it too heavily smile:)

but, some things are just obvious. we see some of the newbies here asking for things that were asked for years ago, so they're always going to be asked for.

but, now you've reminded me... i think it might be a good idea to go peruse some of the earlier posts in the forums. there's some good ideas back there and some good images and filter stuff. never hurts to go back to the basics.

ya know, i saw that too, carl. almost a petrified wood or bark. it's an older filter from back in the dilla noise lab days. i mostly just added AO to it to give it the new look, though i'm playing with several of those rock filters and may redo from scratch in FF2.

this one's mostly for CF&M, our resident 3d guru. this is from an older filter but i thought CF might like to see it (again?). this particular image really stands out under the Caroline glasses (red on left, blue on right), but what's even cooler is when you move your head left or right and watch the image warp itself to follow along...freaky

hehe...Looks good Craig but you always know I can't get enough of these...:>)
Was your design anyway I just moved it into the other world..;>)
Before version 2 came out I was thinking of re-doing the 3d for this filter to include the other methods......But then version 2 came out and you know the rest..;>)

that was it, newkirk. hehe. whoever named those guys borrowed from some associative thinking. newkirk was british and isnt there a newkirk in england? and le beau basically means the good looking or good looking one, i think. so, he was the french womanizer. shultz was just blatantly german stereotype and so on down the line of people. lol.

thanks, steve smile:)

thanks, KG smile:) i worked on it a bit more but taking the grain down much more would require major surgery.

thanks, CF smile:) getting used to the new digs. got my satellite tv hooked up. watching sat night live while i type. still got stuff to move from the old house, yet, but it's comin along smile:)

thanks, steve. not sure what i'm using there. i think it's a profile gradient mixed with a perlin and some other stuff to give that varied look. i'm not sure what the unevenness in the lighting. that could be that i used a light or a custom lighting environment. not sure, but i kinda like the light at the top and darker at the bottom. it gives it a light from above but the rest of the rock shades it, thus giving it some 3d shape... sort of. the high grain on the top and lower grain on the bottom also suggests that the top is more exposed to the weather and thus is consistent with the lighting. so, again, i sort of like it, which is why i posted that one. not all within that filter are like this, though. that filter is pretty wide open giving a lot of different results. i like em that way smile:)

i wrote a couple filters a while back and have been revisiting all of these to bring them up to version 2. the original plan of these filters was to write, with the filter, a sort of tutorial on how make metal and another on how to make glass. i never submitted those and havent really used them much since. but, i do still like them, so here we go, one from each.
