the charcoal one is fine. the wood grains need work, particularly with the 'knots' and the carpet ones are great! i like very much that you've adapted the carpet to use an external image! smile:)

Constantin, your modified carpet example is really good! smile:eek: Better than mine IMO. I'll try examining the other carpet and possibly reworking mine.

I've also upped my wood texture by simply replacing the basic grain from a perlin to a repeated profile gradient + noise distortion:

I think I see the problem with the knots. Let's say you do a cross-section of a branch (which is where knots are from), it looks like the trunk. This means there are rings, and not just warped lines. I think you should do some blend into a pattern of rings.

Fractals are always fun. I don't think FF can automatically make them (you can't plug something back into its own tree), but there are ways to manually make them, it just depends what set of components you are using. One set can be multiplied for each iteration (the # of FF components grows exponentially each time), but this is not only cluttering but slow. Other sets can be copied once per iteration, which is much nicer and faster. Here is an example of each:

Above is slow, here is fast:

Notice how the first example is 3 iterations, but it's still slower than the 2nd example with 6 iterations. Pretty image made with the second filter:

Well, I would like to, but it's not that easy. Right now, the filter is a fractal of a simple frame. To make all the twisted branches on a tree or the hills and valleys produced by weathering and erosion is waaaaaay far off.

I think I mentioned somewhere else that I was making a copper oxidation filter, so I'll post an example of the work in progress here.

The copper is encountering some obstacles, but this one seems to be developing nicely. I call it "memory lane", as you can see why. The scratches are stolen from crapa's snippet. What's great about this filter is the # of controls I made for it, such as 3 for color effects, graininess, focal blur, 2 for stains, 2 for scratches, a vignette (works for non-square images), and 6 white/black balance controls. All of these controls are randomizer friendly. Here's a sample:

Thanks, Betis. I lowered the max. blur for the slider, so here's a less blurred example. I'm also working on expanding the vignette to include not just black, but white and the overlaying yellowish tint. Note both of these photos were taken in the 2000's.

Ok, Betis, here's the original. I apologize for the blurriness, though for this filter, it doesn't even matter. Yay amateur photography! smile:D

Wow, that's a pretty cool shot! Is that from your office/apartment window? Or did you get that off of Google? Also, for that particular preset, turn the contrast down some if you have a slider for it. This would be a great depth picture, which all of my latest unreleased filters are using nowadays... smile:) smile:D

Thanks to the both of you. I've been working on fitting the grunge with an image, and maybe I'll post a picture soon. I've also devised an LED filter that lights up your image in pretty pinpoints of electric goodness. Guess which filter I based it upon.

About that copper filter...I suppose I could submit it now, but I might hold off on that...the result is not where I would like it to be...

But this one looks pretty sweet. And it's all V1, which is why I put it here in this thread.

Thanks. Continuing on, here's some clouds. What's so special about these clouds? They're actually a surface filter (they have a height map!!!). These clouds employ their height map to use the new point light system to simulate light from a setting sun. Gradients are used to increase the effect.

Stop interrupting me Betis! smile;)

Anyway, my grass filter has gone through yet another update; It's up to V5.3 now. Comparably less realistic that Ben's, which I think is one of the most beautiful FF filters ever created, but also comparably faster (but still very slow).

Don't worry, I didn't just do these all just now. Some of these are from before the V2 beta ever came out. Last one for today. This one takes an image, weathers it, and reduces it to three colors: The average and an adjustable value of maximum and minumum.
