same one from the other thread, yes?

Yes.....it actually looks much better than the pics show.....I sold all of my camera equipment (Pentax 67 w/ all lenses) and haven't bought a digital system yet.....so I had to use Anne's little pocket digital camera to take them.....and couldn't get a good pic out of it..... smile:|

is it more nearly finished now or is it just the lighting that's making it look a bit different? and at what point do you call it/them finished?

It's about 3/4 of the way done.....still have alot of fine tuning to do with the curve lines and texture. Once that is done.....it gets flux washed to remove all residues......then soaked in a baking soda bath to deactivate the flux.....then dried, rough polished, sealed, and finally finish polished.....

Yeah, the different lighting pics was just me trying to figure out how to get a good pic out of Anne's camera..... smile:|

how many hour in this one

About 100 hours in a small piece like this.....if everything goes smoothly. My larger, free-standing works take much longer....

Embedding glass, minerals, gemstones, etc. in molten solder will crack them if they are not uniformly raised in temperature.....or if they have imperfections that are stressed with the heat.....not good when that happens because I have to melt them out and replace them.....royal pain in the arse when that happens..... smile:hammer:

So, do you think this type of art would sell in Hawaii??? smile:dgrin: ..... smile:devil:

cool. i want more pics when it's done. i wanna see the 'bling' smile:)

ok, you reminded me of something i tried a long time ago. you remember back in the 60's or early 70's there were coke bottles where the necks had been stretched, ostensibly by heat? i tried to do that and all i ever got was cracked or broken glass. what's the secret to that? low, even heat?

That looks way cool Steve. No idea how much it would sell in Hawaii though.

Am wondering how much it weights though? And how big it is etc etc.. And have you done any with barn owls or something similar?

Yeah......slowly and evenly heated up in a large, front-loading kiln.....constantly turning to prevent the glass from slumping.....pull it out, stretch the neck, put it back in, and slowly bring the heat down at the same rate as it was heated. Different glass has different COEs (coefficient of expansion).....which entails different heating and cooling schedules.....

Do you have a kiln???

ah, ok. all i had was a propane flame, no kiln. i just kept cracking it, so i guess i was heating too fast.

Not really.....the whole bottle has to all be evenly heated up in gradual increments over a certain amount of time according to the glass's CEO. If one part of the bottle is hotter or colder than another part of it, then different parts of the bottle are expanding or contracting at different rates.....which causes it to break.....thus the different automatic heating and cooling schedules in Kilns for glass with different CEOs. You really need a kiln to do it..... smile:)

Nope.....it's a gas..... smile;) smile:D

Glass reaches a liquid/molten state at a certain temperature.....where it becomes maleable.....the higher the temperature, the more 'liquid' it becomes.....so you would need the temperature just right to stretch it while maintaining its' form without melting it into a puddle...... smile;) smile:)

It's 2 foot by 2 foot by 3/4 inch thick.....weighs somewhere between 15-20 pounds.....7% silver mixed in a lead-free tin and nickel based solder.....and no, I only do organic and geometric designs..... smile:)

LMAO..... smile:D I'm just kidding around with you..... smile;) smile:D

Glad you guys like it!!! smile:)

It's part of my ongoing "experimental" work to push the 3D fold with FF.....ThreeDee's "Sphere" filter definitely helped break a barrier..... smile:devil:

Dilla, your "Bend Height to your Will" suggestion would go a long way to create new things in this realm. FF already has a limitted "Z" coordinate to raise surfaces for lighting.....just wish that I had "full" control over it..... smile:devil:

BTW, I gave up on Genetica because there is no possible way to even come close to getting something like this out of it.....

Thanks.....the HDRI images control all the details.....so it could stand to have a different one for a "cleaner" look. Good idea on the backlighting..... smile:)
