Hehe, yeah, that Chaffs noise must come very in handy in a filter like this.

How about a new shape for the waterfall? As the water falls, it spreads out, and the noise within the waterfall gets stretched due to increased speed. This isn't Niagra, but it would be good for those tall little falls.

Hopefully you know what I'm talking about, but I think it should have a stretching effect curve like a Bias curve at about 83.333. As opposed to flat linear like this looks like. Roses are #FF0000

hehe, you guys are reading my mind now. yes, i've thought about doing great variations in the water. it's a little too perfectly rectangular at the moment. it's ok if all you want is a thin sheet of 'water', but it does lack that natural, free falling, free flowing over other objects look. so, i'm quite aware of this. i've even been studying real waterfalls again, or at least, pictures of them. one thing you see in 99.9% of all waterfall pictures is blurred water and apparently, all moving water is white. so, i've been working on just that aspect for the moment.
i've also been re-doing the background again, incorporating more green in some of it. i liked what carl did with those recent pics, too. quite curious to see that one
flowing over rocks is actually one of the original ideas i had for this filter. in the originals the water was flowing down a stream, over rocks and stuff, but a very tall gradation, so, almost a waterfall. from there it became obvious that a waterfall would be even easier and more spectacular to do. ergo, ...
i worked on it some more last night. i'm up to version 7d or so. lol. you shld see some of the failures. i've also added in the new backgrounds and will probably continue to play with those. the 'mist' is also being exasperating. i need a better mist. and simpler controls and a new truck, and a new... uhm, never mind.
so, i appreciate the feedback. keeps me interested If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I have an idea for the mist, instead of having it fade off, try doing a threshold that starts off low and fades into high outwards, that way particles stay white, there's just less of them. Roses are #FF0000

i havent posted in a while in this thread. just thought i'd show you all some of the stuff i'm working on... well, one maybe i'm going to be submitting some stuff to sign_guy, fred. this is a sample of that. it's taken from a seamless 3600 x 3600 image. it's just a screenshot, sized down and compressed in .jpg, so, hopefully fred wont mind. in fact, fred, if you have any comments, let me know, here or by email.
this is an 'old brick' filter. it took a while to work out the unevenness of the depth, like old bricks get sometimes. but, this is definitely the best brick i've ever done. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

wow that's really good depth on the bricks, it's hard to tell what texture you have on the mortar at that size [ yes when it's enlarged ] it appears that it could do with tonal variation or irregularity in the mortar .............. it's looking good

thanks i was real happy with that depth, too. and yes, i'm working on the mortar yet. i've got two perlin colors fed into the mortar node so far, to give it some variety and i've got a color control to change the depth of the mortar. i'm about two versions beyond that posted image now. still some things to iron out, but i can spit out some nice ones here and there with it If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

you want one closer up? i played with it some more after your comments yesterday. i fixed a couple issues, especially with the mortar. i'm on the other machine right now, but maybe later i'll post another. i can get quite a variety of brick out of this one, as is, but i've still got a couple things to resolve, especiially the grain on the brick; it's a little hard to get it right at times. it would seem, from betis' picture, that i got so enamored with the height variations of that first brick, that i forgot to make the rest look like brick. so, i worked on that a bit. the mortar still isnt right, but i can improve that. this is a closeup of 3600 x 3600 section: If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

you were expecting dinner and a movie?
thanks, carl. i'm still working on it. i took betis' picture of brick and am attempting to duplicate the look in the filter. it's a bit of a trick, to say the least. so, i still have the filter with the bricks set at different depths, but i'm now having to use the depth to make the individual bricks have irregular depth. add in the noise and roughness and it's breaking my back. i get one part and lose another. this is why i'd love to see the hdri and depth aspects of FF untied from the results component. ah well, i'll figure it out If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

ok, i put the brick down for a bit, but i'll be coming back to it. for now, i just tossed out a new distortion painter. this one combines a number of things besides distortion, however. and i'm liking the surreal/impressionist/van gogh sort of look to this one.
