Just for fun, a mod on the mud cracks: light cracks.

ok, that last one looks a little weird, though, with a threshold and set alpha, you could maybe separate the white cracks out from everything else and just have them on a transparent background, which you could then apply to other images... yes, no?

Yeah I agree Craig, the light cracks don't shine through as much as the mud ones (hahaha not funny). Maybe with rays of light coming out of the cracks, or some kind of bloom, it would look better. Also, your transparency idea is interesting, but it wouldn't work with such tiny cracks.

SOOOO...I widened the cracks and swapped the "bias noise" with a frame, and I must say, the result is quite smashing! (I hate my jokes)

What if you did some sort of Perspective and had all the rocks be giant shafts sticking out of a bottomless pit. Yeah. But all-in-all, the filter is great. The most realistic part being those thinner cracks from the edge to about 1/3 into the middle, maybe 1/4 IF you're going to go back to the flat width of cracks. Hey, check out my new Feature Wishlist topic.

Thnx Craig. And Betis, if you don't mind, I think I'll play around with your shadows filter to make giant rock shafts in perspective (refer to here.)

Speaking of which, I made an offset-oriented uni-direction motion blur, just like the one I submitted Zoom Blur (which I asked to take down due to the extreme genetic similarities of Uber's older one), I could post it here if you want to play around with it.

Also, I've begun to attempt to learn Blender! This is my first 3d modeling and rendering program (unless you count my demo of Bryce), and so far I find it really cool, albeit having one hell of a learning curve. Fortunately, there are tutorials and a manual on the Blender website to help guide me.

My first original half-way decent model (outside of tutorials) is...
here it comes...
an APPLE!
And the best part is...
the suspense...
All the textures were made in FF!!!

So yeah, I made an apple, chosen because it's a relatively simple shape with only three parts (fruit, stem, and leaf). The texture for the fruit was a mod of ionic69's Apples of Botox. It doesn't look terrible by itself, but it obviously looks a lot better on the apple. Tex:

Yeah, blender is hard. Hey, if you find 3D Navigation and especially rotation difficult, go to the preferences, and change camera rotation type to track-ball. But yeah, Blender (along with every 3D modeling program) is hard to learn, I practically gave up on it.

The apple, using the above texture for the fruit, Kochubey's wood for the stem (I added a gradient to make the stem fade to green at the bottom), and ThreeDee's Leaf for...you guessed it.. the leaf! (after some annoying rotating and resizing).

See? Don't 2D textures really look different in 3D renderers? I wonder if this issue should be addressed a little more, because 3D texturing has got to be a major use of FF.

And we do have a wind blur in the library, as well as a pretty unconventional one here. If yours is any different from these two, then I would love to see it!

indigo, you could have told me that was a photo of an apple and i would have believed it, except for the stem. the stem is a bit too straight and rigid looking and the taper is a bit too exact. but, other than that, wow!

LOL, Betis, when you wake up, your unidirectional blur is essentially similar to Crapa's (both use a chain of offsets and blends).

Crapa's what? Wind Blur? Yeah, I didn't steal the idea, but really it's just the best way to do custom blurs, so we all have the same logic. smile8)

Yeah, my mind mixed Craig with Carl... see... yeah. *facepalm*

Oh wow, a little late for this, but sorry Carl. smile:blush:

On the flip side, I made a "northernshadow-esque" filter. It's a crosshatch, but it varies from her's. Here's the default, with AA on (I have prepared examples w/o AA):

Thanks Penelope! smile;)

Out of my envy for ronviers' Lake Bed, I downloaded it and tried to figure out how it made the cracks so I could see if I could implement them into my mud crack filter. Instead, I made lightning. smile:?: smile:D (I added the cloudiness myself)

uhm, no. too wild and scattered. see 3d's lightning filter smile;)

but, those 'cracks' can certainly have lots of other uses.

How could I miss either of them? That's why I added the clouds. I tried turning my lightning into an effect filter, but the results aren't that great at the moment.

Meanwhile, I a filter that does fluorescent ceiling panels, such as the ones in my basement, and I think the filter looks pretty darn close. Anyone else care to shed some light? (there I go again...)

Except that it needs a glow, it looks terrific! Find a name for them as well so we can be proper.

Aside from that, I just got back from a 5-day trip to Santa Catalina Island!

oh, i like that, indigo, the ceiling panels. i'm assuming you put in the dirt/smudge/bugs on purpose. can they be removed, if desired?

Of course. Here's w/o the "flies and things", new dimensions, and a change in lighting (yes this is a surface filter). I hope this is what you mean by "glow", Betis.

Hmmm, I don't see a glow, and without my inner knowledge of how your filter works, I think it being a surface filter is hindering you from doing a glow.

If you need an example of a glow I'm talking about, see my filter. Of course, that's me being picky, but it should probably be a control.

Living without FF for 5 days was painful. I saw impossible 3D filter ideas everywhere. One I really think is possible and I want to do is underwater sunrays.

indigo, very cool!

you dont see the glow, betis? the whole center horizontal area is alight. it looks very natural.

and carl's question of the two outer tubes is very apropo. that would be slick to be able to 'turn on' the various three bulbs.

Personally, I don't see the glow, but I haven't seen one of those lights in about a month, so what you have now is more realistic than an actual glow that I want. So, don't mind me. smile:)

that type of light is florescent. you wont see any big glow, per se. it's diffused in real life and so it shld be here (and is).
