yup, carl. steve be da man smile:) and i dont use that avatar here because it's kind of worn out. i'm still thinking up a new one. btw, that avatar on retouchpro came from a software box that someone scanned into their computer and posted on another site. i took it and manipulated it and cleaned it up and later on used it as my avatar smile:)

no comment smile;) actually, that's what we dont want... no comment smile:) i used to rant a bit over on retouchpro where i post a lot of photo art, that folks didnt comment enough. someone takes the time to do up something nice for others to look at and nobody says boo. very discouraging at times. you're never quite sure if someone is being quiet because they thought your work sucked or if they were just being indifferent and saying nothing or if they simply didnt have time or what the hell. you just dont know and it leaves you with a bit of a 'starved' feeling at times. art is, above all else, a communication. you are saying something and saying it to someone or someones. when there is no response it's like talking to someone who simply doesnt answer. it tends to leave a void. when i say to someone, 'how are you?' and they simply stand there like a lump of coal and say nothing back... it leaves one hanging. we've all encountered this. it's no different when you post a filter or an art piece. one expects someone to respond.

and that's why we love steve. he responds! yay! carl is good, too and there's a few others that are ok about this, but steve is the king and i, for one, appreciate it! smile:) smile:)

In all honesty, I think you and Carl are much more "even headed & handed" than I am with everyone here.....so much so that I think FF owes both of you a dept of gratitude for how much you guys have contributed to the overall "cause" here..... smile:) smile:) smile:)

One lesson that I've learned is that you can't control how other people are or what they do.....just gotta be yourself and treat everyone as you want to be treated.....even if it is not reciprocated.....maybe something like that "good carma" thing..... smile;) smile:)

Anywho, I wouldn't be here if not for you guys.....so here's to you!!! smile:beer:

.....and the same goes for you, Carl, my fine cheeky friend smile:dgrin: It wouldn't be the same without you here..... smile:) smile:) smile:)

Both of you guys have been truly "selfless" in how you have tried to help people here.....and sometimes it is not appreciated.....but you guys continue to do it. I figure if I hang out with you guys long enough that some of it might rub off on me..... smile;) smile:)

some friends on retouchpro were talking about 'buzz' the plugin for photoshop a while back and had posted some examples of its use. now, i never owned buzz, but i was impressed by the effects, so, i thought i'd try and duplicate at least one of the looks/effects in FF. i got fairly close at least in one preset smile:)

now, the monster doesnt have too many distortion types within, but there are a few. this is one of the few presets i have for legs of the filter with distortions. i thought this one, on this image, was sort of an alien with a gas mask and kinda fun, therefore smile:)

oh, and that's one of the secrets of FF; if it doesnt look like anything else and has you puzzled, just tack the word 'alien' onto the title and it shld be ok smile;) smile:D

the filter attached to this thread is NOT a public library filter! it does therefore NOT fall under the FF EULA! the filter is copyrighted by myself. i reserve the rights to all presets, all algorithms used within the filter and all derivative works, whether those derivative works are from presets or not! i am posting it here for my friends and viewers of this thread for their use, providing that ANY and ALL uses carry a written acknowledgement of a reasonable size and manner ("reasonable" meaning, such that it does not hinder or mar whatever work or piece it is used on) of myself as the author of the filter. i ask no other compensation for using this filter.

if such an acknowledgement impedes, hinders, detracts from or mars the work it is used upon in such a manner as to be detrimental in a noticably, visual manner, then a copy of the work in question shld be posted here (low resolution is fine or even a part of the image is ok), or a link provided here in this thread to the work in question such that one can see the acknowledgement under or around the work in question.

if that is or becomes undesirable by the admins here on the FF forums, then an email shall be addressed to me showing proof of acknowledement or that provides a link to such proof.

in more plain terms, all i'm asking for here is that if you use this filter, then give me credit in some manner for the making of this filter. i dont want a book; i just want to see how the filter was used, who used it and that i got a little free advertising for the use of the thing. that seems like a pretty fair deal to me, ay? smile;)

also note, it's not that great of a filter, so dont have a cow over my legalese. this is something of an experiment, as well. the FF eulas only cover those filters which reside within the FF library, but do not cover filters published separate from the library, except maybe the author's eula. you'll have to decide that for yourself. at any rate, re-sellers may NOT use this filter without giving specific credit to myself and FF. period! like i said, this filter is NOT covered by the normal end user license agreement. heck, re-sellers probably arent interested anyways, since this is an effect filter, not a texture filter.

ok, with that out of the way, this is a filter from "The Monster". i've been stripping out various legs of this thing and making more single-minded filters of them. this one is the one that created that pitted copper look above. you'll find that i havent tried to confine it to just that look, however, so it's still a bit wide open, as all the legs are in the monster. i find that that's one of its strengths, not weaknesses in this particular case.

also, that coppery look is somewhat dependent on the colors of the image you are using it on. i used it on a nice reddish face, so i got some decent copper hues. on something else, who knows. i make no warranties.
