The next 11 images to inform on my plight. You see sometimes a filter can be so broad that too many things are possible. But what to do when this is not a consequence of an over inclusion of components, but just the nature of nature?

First a simple paper fold (1200 px @ 25AA):

Then a rounded particle and rotation chaos begets (1200 px @ 25AA):

Increasing the roughness, rotation order, and smoothness creates this lovely mech reptile (1200 px @ 0AA):

Edit: The AA on J1 and J3 should be 0 not 25

So, should I for the sake of 'clarity' keep this filter as is, or for the sake of 'similarity of purpose' cut it up?

Oh the woe!

With a bit more detail on the coloring, it's starting to look slightly like some Alex Grey works. This one with 4 repeat horizontal color symmetry:

The only difference between this next one and the above is that it has 2 repeat horizontal color symmetry instead of 4:

Oh yeah! I've been struggling for a little while trying to lick this puppy, but now its been done!

On the middle graphic below you can see a zoom section of an error that pops up about 1/10 the time. I don't foresee the ability to fix this in a timely (processing) manner, so this necessitates the inclusion of the vertical offsets for each strand to manually fix them. Now the question is, how to avoid the 20 offsets needed for 20 strands? Cue train wreck track!

Its pretty neat though how the algorithm almost appears intelligent, redoing all the overlaps in an alternating fashion. All three images are the same except for the repositioning of the red strand vertically.

Non train wrecks are increasingly rare and more difficult to deal with as the number of strands increases (with random waviness), but, 10 seconds for 6 strands = smile:)

Went back to redo the collision testing, so now there is close to 0 possibility of train wrecks, but at about twice the time.
Anyway...combinatorial analysis isn't necessary!

I'm taking a completely different approach here from Free Braid. This seems to be pretty close aside from the occasional smile:?:
Thresheld polar wrap coming soon...

Btw, the closest to this I could find that had been done already is Wild Pipes, and Cat Paths, but neither has the long runs AND self overlap.

I think I'll be contenting myself to decorative trim for the mean time though, but I've got some ideas now for that elusive greek key stuff.

smile:) The only leads I have on that at the moment are, to use a piecemeal approach like: https://www.filterforge.com/filters/6577.html
or maybe something can be teased out of Cat Paths (image of preset #12 below) to make it a multi-variant Celtic braid monster?

Seems like Cat Paths is the most promising. Is there a way to get Cat Paths to not (knot haha) fill every "tile position" with a path?

Chances, Tint, and Size too, but seeing as though there are only crosses and corners, I'll leave you that task if you wish. smile:D

Not using a bomber at all, but a nice checker hack of sorts, here's square waves perpendicular about the axes! smile:ff:

The only other hint I'll give at this point about how to build this is to look closely at the following, which is merely a rotated and slightly scaled version of the above.
