Thanks again for kind words Lipebianc. Glad you find the filter useful. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who does weird stuff like that to images. Good to know that there is at least one other person who doesn't think my ideas crazy .... Gene

Do you really think that ONLY one person finds it useful ? The how is possible that has been downloaded 312 times and have a AVERAGE usage rank ? smile:)

DO NOT VALUE your filters ONLY through the comments on the filters comments page because many people are NOT grateful and does not stop to say at least THANKS, or say a very short nice comment for the author.

Myself can´t say if it is useful or not because have not tried it yet. sorry.

SpaceRay ..... Sorry if you thought I was whining. That is why i don't comment much in the forum. I'm just so misunderstood. Actually my remarks were meant as encouragement for Libebianc. He has only a few filters in the library, but they are all real jems. I use them all the time. He is quite creative and when he reviews other peoples filters he usualy post a good example of how he has used it. He really seems to get it. I appreciate that a lot. I find that to be the best part of the FF experence, finding folks who maybe live half a world away but can still share your enthusiasm for creativity.

As far as this filter having over 300 downloads, it is usage that really counts. The whole story is that it took a long time for this filter to start being downloaded a lot. It took off after I posted some examples of how I use in on my thread in the gallery section of the forum. I find that always helps. I wish other user would do the same. Then Libebianc's review always helps as well. I make filters for my own use, but I always upload them hoping others may find a use for them as well. I'm not looking for a pat on the back, but honest communication sure makes a guy keep going. This is a site that encourages people to work together. That is what FF is all about and I like that ...... Gene

Wow Gene! How did I miss this filter when you first uploaded it? smile:?: Shame on me. smile:blush:

This is a real keeper. This is one of my flat 2D tiles below.

And now with your filter applied.

I used the image as the bottom and the texture and got this fantastic embossed rich new tile. Great job! This is going right into my favorites. smile;)

Here is my striped tile.

And now dressed up with a Fleur-de-lis pattern. This one is for the guys.

Mardar .... Hey I never thought of using the filter with simple flat images. It does a quick and dirty emboss. Nice work. I really like it.

Morgantao .... Thanks much for your comments. Glad you agree about having Folk show more examples of how they use there filters. I wish others did as well.

Gene, after all the silliness with my "Mad Chocolate King" in your gallery post, I thought I better make it up to you with this. I played around with the Sculptris program again (after laughing at my first attempts) and came up with a much better image this time. I then ran it threw your wonderful Homemade Paper Texture filter.(I told you I would be using this filter) smile;) I used for the texture a tile I made for cake texture. Yes I said cake texture. LOL

Any-hoo. This is the result.

Thanks for the suggestion to try Sculptris and really thank you for the filter that made it pop. smile:love:

P.S. I call this Gene's Mask.

I get the impression that presets 3 and 7 using use the same photo as base and texture. When I try to do this with my own photo, the texture image is always smaller than the background. Am I not understanding something here?

Ghislaine, I just did a screen capture and then opened my paint program and got the capture from the clipboard, then cropped and saved as a jpg. I can't open obj files either.

Andrew B. is your texture image the same size as the open image. I don't know if this matters or not. I always use seamless tiles as the texture, so mine may be smaller too but I don't notice because it tiles.

Okay Andrew B., I just checked and the images have to be square for this to work correctly. I tried a rectangle picture and my texture was small also. smile:(

One more before I head off to bed. I have had way to much fun today. Gene you have created a monster creator. smile:D

This time I used a circle pattern for the texture. I love this one too. This one is called Genes Idol.

Andrew B. …. I'm sorry but you are quite right, there are some kinks in my filter. The input image node does not work as I expected it to. I was excited when they added that node to FF3 because I had wanted to make this filter for a long time and tested it a lot, but obviously not enough. It has some problems especially when used as a Photo Shop plugin. I'm not very scientific in filter production. I just don't have 20 or 30 hours of life to spare to create award winning filters. To me, filter making is imagination and as much art as the artwork I try to produce. I'm really sorry it did not work for your image. There are several filters in the library that emboss images that you might want to try.

Ghislaine … Love the queen … If you can do that good with your first attempt just imagine what you will be able to do after a hundred or so.

Mardar … Wow ….. You are really taking to this digital clay. You don't need me to make tikis. You can just make your own. What you did is pretty much what I do to create the carved and textured look on my tikis. Then I use a bunch of other FF filters to dress them up. The cake texture looks like rough stone. Very cool.

Ladies and anyone else trying to use Sculptris ….. It is easy so save your sculpts as jpgs or pngs right in Sculptris. Near the center just above the work area is a box labeled “Options”. Click on it and choose the menu option at the top right: “Save Image”. You can even use your own bitmap image as a background. I use a red one to make it easier to make a selection with the magic wand. Also you can change your clay color and shading by changing the material. I even have a filter in the library called Simple Sphere Maker that can be used to create your own materials. They are just bitmap images of a sphere. Hope this helped …...

Hi Gene !

Thanks for your kind words and for the tricks. I will try this. But I have a problem with Sculptris. Yesterday, I was creating another monster and the soft crashed. It takes a lot of memory to create stuff with it. I'm sorry I loose this monster, it was better than the queen. smile;)

Gene, yes I do need you to make tikis. I could never create what you make. Every artist is unique and has his own style. I respect that very much. So you keep doing what you do best. My images look more like pottery or carved stone to me. Nowhere near the charm of your tikis. Those old ugly mugs are priceless. smile;)

Thanks for pointing out the save option in the Sculptris program. I just jumped head first into the thing and didn't look under the hood to see what was under there. lol That is me in a nut shell. smile:D

Have a good one.

Ghislaine .. I used to have trouble with crashes on the old beta version of Sculptris. I thought they fixed that with the new version. Also, the program will often recover from crashes without losing anything when restarted. Try reinstalling it if you still have problems. It may be a issue with your version of windows, but I've never heard of anyone not getting it to work at all. Hope you get it worked out.

Mardar ... As I mentioned in the other thread, your last sculpt is actually kinda close to PNG style. The horns would not be part of any tiki. The nose is too small and needs to be flatter. I know you weren't even trying for tiki, but it is really pretty good for someone who said they never could sculpt. Keep sculpting .....

Thank you Gene. No I haven't sculpted, but I have been drawing since I was old enough to use a pencil and sculpting in Sculptris is very similar to drawing if you think about the shading and lines. I have studied shadows and lighting for as long as I can remember. I must have been born that way. Ancient carvings have always fascinated me and the uglier the better. Gargoyles, idols, wall carvings, tikis, pottery, or any other old art I can study for hours. I wish I had been formally trained, but I never stop trying to learn on my own. smile;)
