Hi..
I'm working on a planet filter (you can follow progress here), but working out a realistic cloudcover (earth like) is not very easy - specially winds and turbulence - I've searched the filter lib., but without luck (well, there's lots of blue and white mapped perlin noise, but thats not all there is to it) - check out the real thing: ![]() Below is a preview of the current cloud "engine" - here I use noise distortion to get some kind of turbulence, but I don't think it looks that good really.. I was hoping that some of you wizards might have examples or ideas on how to create more realistic clouds.. it doesn't have to 100% earthlike, but it should be possible to get a bit closer I think.. ![]() |

ok, i suggested you add a perlin and noise distortion, but there's one more thing you can do with those. add a threshold and set alpha after the distortion and isolate just the brights. or, for an even quicker fix, turn off the black in the perlin. just set the alpha channel in the perlin background color to zero. that shld also isolate just the whites. then you can get more control over what you want.

I agree.....plus you can threshold map it into cell noise/rings profile for some of the swirling effects...... Steve
