I have used already many times the very good FF kaleidoscope component and also some filters based on this BUT now I wonder HOW does this Kaleidoscope component works?
How does it make the output from the source image input? Reading the Kaleidoscope FF Help Page
So it seems that this component depending on the mode sel ected (Square, triangle, etc.) will take the part inside the shape of the mode and use this to multiply it many times to create the kaleidoscopic pattern. But what I wonder is HOW is this shape overlayed over the source image to take that bit of information for the kaleidoscope effect? What size, rotation or angle does it take the mode shape sel ected so you can get the output result fr om this component? Here below I have put an example of a source image in the background and a Rhomb shape that is cut and selected fr om the source image to build the kaleidoscope image ![]() |

What is the difference fr om Triangle 1 and 2, and from the 3 rhomb versions? In the help page is not put. ------------------------------------------------ Yuya have said that the FF Kaleidoscope is NOT based on angles, so does it mean that is NOT like the traditional kaleidoscope construction of the images? I mean that in the Wikipedia this is how the Kaleidoscope image is built
Also I have seen some tutorial for making the effect MANUALLY on photoshop or other graphic software wh ere you can cut a triangle from the source image, and then flip it and paste it in the other side to make a bigger triangle and then this same bigger triangle is duplicated 6 times to make an hexagon, and then duplicate the hexagon tiling it as shown here below Is this way how is made the kaleidoscope images inside the FF component? ![]() |

Here is one of the tutorials for Photoshop I have told above and is explained clearly how to do the kaleidoscope effect MANUALLY yourself and shows how is done the triangular cut as shown here above and then fliped and duplicated
How to Create Kaleidoscope Patterns from Your Photos Is this way the angles way that Yuya have said and that FF kaleidoscope component does not work this way? MULTI TRIANGLES SHAPES Then I have found another way to make kaleidoscope effect images using multi triangles shapes using a specific software called "Kaleidoscope Kreator 3" wh ere it uses this kind of triangles shapes taken from the source image and duplicated and rotated as shown here below Would be possible to make this kind of kaleidoscopic images with multi triangles in Filter Forge? ![]() |

Then I have seen also the Mehdi Kaleidoscope that do not know how is built the kaleidoscope effect and is made with a FREE Photoshop (or compatible host) plugin.
This will not work with Photoshop CC Here is an example taken fr om this website shown here wh ere you can see a butterfly fish alone, and then made with the kaleidoscope effect, BUT it is showing the WHOLE fish and is not cropped or cut as it could happen in other kaleidoscope effects. For more examples made in this way see this second link The single fish is from this website page ![]() |

TESTING HOW REALLY WORKS FF KALEIDOSCOPE
I have thought that there is one way to know and test how does really work the FF kaleidoscope component, and is by making a specific image source where you can really know what happens when it is feed into the FF Kaleidoscope I have made this test image that includes text and lines clearly defined, so I can know then what happens inside and how is the output processed and then discover how it works I will make some tests and will put the results to discover how it works ![]() |

Sorry that I totally forgot that in february 2014 I was going to put the results of the texting of the Kaleidoscope and have not put it, but I think that now I can do it and see how it works, as in the image example there are lines, text and numbers will be easy to identify the behaviour of the kaleidoscope effect
