I love it when that happens! smile:D

nice filter btw! I suggest adding a derivative component and blending really lightly with it for much more textural feeling smile8)

Where would I add that in? Can you give me an example?

Its similar to having a really light version of a surface result component, so I would put it at the very end.

Example: last node -> derivative -> lerp derivative with 50% grey about 99% -> soft light blend with original last node

Hehe ok, thank you smile:-) I had a play with it earlier and I hate to say it, but in this filter it´s an absolute no go. It increases the render times by a couple of centuries. :S

you may have to blur it by like .01 before you put it into the derivative component to help the render speed. But if it's still too slow you can add it as an option or obviously just leave it out all-together. can you post a picture of it with it on? I'd like to see smile:)

There you go. That blur did the trick. Who would have thought it could actually speed up a filter? smile:D

Edit: better version. tweaked the settings a bit.

I think it's because the blur converts the input to a bitmap fr om algorithmic samples. so it's like a proxy but full resolution smile:D

it doesn't seem to have much of an effect except for on the dirt... maybe bump it up a bit? or does it start looking weird? I think the only think this filter needs is for the stones to have some depth. everything else looks astonishing. This is wh ere the emboss component would come in handy. Basically if you can get a slightly bigger version of the rock shapes and put them under and then make a "wall" connecting the "base" of the rock and the "top" of the rock, you'd get some subtle but very convincing depth for the stones.

I turned it down a lot, because it was too much. It just adds a subtle shading to everything, especially the grass, which is great.
The stones edges is something I´m working on. I think I messed up a setting somewhere so they look a bit weird atm. I´m also not yet happy with the grass, I think it looks a tad artificial still.

Btw in combination with the blur, somehow the derivative trick made the filter faster lol.
Thx again for teaching me that, I think this will come in handy in future filters to add more depth.
I have to try it out on some of my others smile:D

The stones are still not quite right, but it´s a lot easier to tweak stuff with the filter being 10 times faster now smile:D
And I removed the original dropshadow from the leaves so they don´t look like they are floating above the stones.

Overall, nice job! I really like the little ground plants. smile:) I think though that the leaves would realistically produce some kind of shadow underneath. Also, maybe try making the stones a little bumpier and jagged?

Yeah, ofc leaves produce shadows, but it was too strong and made them seem like hovering in the air, rather than sitting on the surface. At least it looked like that to me. I´ll leave that for last, the stones are more important atm. They are doing my head in, I just can´t seem to get them to look right smile:evil:

Oh and to give proper credit btw, I raided Dilla´s Slate filter and looted a noise for the flagstone texture smile:p

Top down view got old.
Still struggling with the stones a bit, but I think it´s just a matter of tweaking the settings now.

Agree with Betis, this looks promising.
Add a Spaceray mode (both to paint and to background) and you're on the right track smile:D

Thanks smile:-)
Spaceray mode is the latest fashion, huh?
Not sure where I want to go with it yet. But yeah Spaceray mode for paint was planned. I was also thinking of adding the option to load a mask for areas with more or less wear. I´d want that for texturing, and it´s probably useful for all kinds of other stuff?

This one is not a filter, just messing around. A texture that was some kind of happy accident, with CorvusCroax´s Bronzerizer applied.

Skybase, if you had scrolled down, you would have found the link to google maps!

Indigo, yes, it´s based on a simplified version of Band of Runes.

The map was done with a modified version of Cartography.
