Ok rather than clog up this area of the forums with random questions I think Im just gonna keep posting on this one with my random questions. I feel like a pro after opening up so many filters and stealing their patterns to learn what Im doing. And then making my own using the knowledge from the others. So my question right now is does this look like Carbon Fiber? I cut a colored image of it and a black image.

crystic,
actually, your image posted here does remind of carbon fiber, albeit a more fine weave than one normally sees. it also appears to be in a roll, which is cool. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Yea well at first glance when I made this It looked alot like if i carved it into a the shaped of a hood or photoshopped it It would look like Carbon Fiber. Unfortunatley zooming in would say otherwise. Maybe Ill upload an image later to explain.

I replied to this thread yesterday and see my reply was removed. I shall assume it was because it mentioned competitive products by name. So I will reply again without such references.
The guys I know in the vehicle wrap business are not very happy with any of the many carbon fiber seamless tiles available that have been made using procedural software. Most have shifted to using high resolution photos of real carbon fiber. What will work with them is a photographic image that has been made into a seamless tile. The same is true with many other types of images and why so many competitors to Filter Forge are developing products to handle this need and this opportunity. One would hope that the FF team is also aware of this. Fred Weiss

Turn the reflection blur up to about 50 or more, I mean, all I can say is look back at the close-up I posted.

I salute you! Very nice work, Im interested to see how it was done, because I can get the pattern but there seems to always be a slight problem with the ways im doing it.

Good result, Betis!
I also want to add my five cents for this 'Carbomania'. ![]() Here is some new views and 3D tests for my "Weave V2" filter which I want to convert into fully 'techno weaves' generator. ![]() |

Ok, so now that a fantastic filter has spawned from this thread, back to my original plans for this (nice work on the carbon fiber btw).
Cystic's Inner Gem So this was one of my first filters and my only question is, why did it bomb? I understand the need for conventional materials but this is a really nice filter that needs work. 1. So if it was your filter, what would you add? 2. How would you improve? 3. What would you remove? 4. And last but not least, does it offer any particular use in anything? Some notes about your gems: What is the bump map doing? Compare the diffuse map to the combined render and you'll see what I mean. Also, how about glowing gems (check out some glow filters out there).

crystic,
there was a thread somewhere on 'crystal' filters and there were some pretty good examples. you might search the forums and the filters using 'crystal'. i think when you compare your 'inner gem' to some of the others, you'll see. try 'gems' too. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
