Re: http://www.filterforge.com/filters/6696.html

Any suggestions...

I was quite pleased with this (my first) filter but I've just had a look at it again and noticed that using the 'Randomizer' often produces poor results - e.g. the dots are too jumbled up and too often there is a transparent background.

I don't want to change it in a way that would mess up the existing presets (mine or the users) but is there a way to tighten things up, so that the Randomizer has better results or should I just add some advice on the 'About' notes - i.e. don't use the Randomizer!? smile:)

re-mapping is generally the way to 'tighten' your parameters and keep effects from running away all over the place. if you're not familiar with re-mapping, check the wiki or the FF helps.

Thanks Kraellin & Vladimar - that makes sense, I've actually used the remappers already but for some reason (it was probably late when I asked) didn't make the obvious connection with the poor Randomizer results of this filter. I'll have to see if I can alter the filter without 'breaking' the presets. smile:)

Hi ChrisP,

One trick is to use Integer Sliders and remap them. Using integer sliders means that if you have cool results at certain points, (often at 0,25, 50, and 100), by limiting the number of stops on the IntSlider to say less than, you can hit those points more easily, rather than a regular slider which will just hit everything from 0-100 with equal frequency.

This filter was an experiment in getting distinct output out of the randomizer. Check out how the controls are set up. http://www.filterforge.com/filters/6609.html
