The basis of my upcoming snail/ammonite/nautilus filter is a spiral gradient.
I created the spiral gradient by feeding an altered profile gradient into Byro's Spherify. There must be a faster way. Note the attached filter. My first version (1st preset 3.22 sec) was a cut and paste of profile gradients. I needed more swirls so I reversed engineered it into the second (current) version. This one (2nd preset 4.00 sec) uses several offsets. Both these versions also use a refraction component to affect the vertical offset (so the spiral becomes more of a snail). I wanted to do away with all the offset components and the refraction component so I tried a third approach (3rd preset 2.81 sec). This time with one offset that affects the horizontal part with a Circular arc component. This looked ok at first glance but if you watch the remaps of all the versions (4th, 5th and 6th preset respectively) you'll see that this last version does not create an even gradient. So... if anybody feels up for a challenge, please be my guest. (I'm also going to have another go at it, writing this gave me an idea for a completely different aproach) Spiral gradient.ffxml |

Very interesting challenge!
One thing you should do is replace ByRo's snippet with uberzev's 'Spherify/Unspherify'... it is faster! ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Did you ever check out my spiral snippet to see if it would work..Maybe some modifying of that would work...I know that Vold did a mod of this filter also...
Maybe when I get a chance I will see what I can do with it... ![]() http://www.filterforge.com/filters/1892.html Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |

It should enter the snippets soon...
If only I could get the gradient to point the other way(s). |

Oh my god, I think I've got it. Damn I'm smart (or maybe it's just the infinite monkey theorem).

hehe.
but the real question here is, why do you use the editor right to left? do you read right to left? ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
