Anybody got a tip for me on how to make my Os more randomly placed? Right now they're a tile component with the corners turned up and the mortar making the ring.

Cool concept!!!
![]() You could even take this concept further......and do "Alphabet Soup" ![]() Steve

yup, nice concept.
and no, not sure how to randomly place. i can control how many show up, but not the placement too much. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

You are using a Threshold to get rid of 1/2 of them I take it ?

A levels due to the higher level of control, but yes, essentially.
Here, i'll attach it, (which I meant to do the first time but forgot. ![]() Breakfast time.ffxml |

this isnt perfect, but try this. it sort of simulates randomness by using two of the same thing and blending. each control handles one leg of the combine.

Hm, that's interesting... uses the same tile component, so it doesn't have the 'omg, the cheerios are dividing by mitosis! look that I ended up with at one point.
Maybe I just need to use a different kind of pattern component. Perhaps a Cell noise w/contours? |

nah, dont change what you have. it looks good. but, here's somethign else you can do with it to simulate a randomness. add two offsets, one for each of those legs.
i also changed the blend mode so that some of the 'cherios' would be on top of each other. Breakfast time rev 1a.ffxml If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

That's cool. I'll have to add in a 'separator' to make sure there's not so much 'O merging' but that's awesome. Thanks for the help!

Nice concept. Couldn't help but play around a bit with your library filter...

NICE! I like the partially submerged ones... I was thinking about doing something like that, but decided to leave it alone for now. I'll have to poke into how you did that when I get home.

i like your simple fix there, dilla, except you do get a few of those 'cellular mitosis' O's there. maybe a combination of ours would do it?

I had an idea to 'break' the mitosis Os (sounds like a great cereal) by using a high pass or a difference blend to find the edges of the top 0s and then darken them, but I couldn't make it work. Anyone wanna take a stab at it?

Thanks. I tried to boil the filter down to the basics by getting rid of some components. Works quite well still. ![]() And yes, I agree that the 'cellular mitosis' is indeed something that should be resolved. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

See, that's what I'm not good at yet. I'll have to see how you did stuff. I am totally unsure of how to 'boil down' a filter, as I don't have a good understanding of some of the more advanced components. Plus, in some ways I'm still thinking of this as an action writer (who remembers the Action Xchange before Adobe sucked it up?) instead of a filter, so I have an unfortunate tendency to chain blurs and thresholds.... |

We could start a thread or a wiki that would feature editor screenshots of "the DOs and DON'Ts of filter construction" along with explanations... ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

I wonder if there are people who actually use the wiki. I know I hardly have (apart from adding a page).

![]() btw... would be great with a link to the wiki in top of the forum page somewhere.. since everyone with questions comes here anyways.. and it would be a good reminder for all of us to use the wiki more often |

True... a more prominent wiki would probably also invite me to check it once in a while.
But I do think that it needs to be restructured/revised a bit before that, it's somewhat of a loose collection of articles right now. |
