I'm concentrating on my drawings at the moment for a new exhibition, I would like to do 3d { with out the work of spending hour and hours, weeks and years learning it properly smile;) } but don't know what use I'd have for it apart from fun smile:)

Nice start! smile:) Better than my attempt for sure.

I'm trying to figure out what it's missing...maybe more roughness and scratches?

Thick bark like that actually isn't a solid it has rough layering and tonal changes, I think that might help Totte smile:)

not quite an EP for me. the default is pretty good, but some of the variations are a bit weird. #2 and #4 have an almost moire' look. you dont see that in natural wood. it's a far cry better than i could do, though, but needs some refinement for an EP.

OK, I think I fixed the moire problem (was too regular ring patterns).

Totte, It looks good btw, but the cracks need to be shorter as they approach the center. Just use a simple circular gradient and plug it into the squash input

I think you should use the same squash map for the distortion, tree rings are very circular when they are young and only start to get distorted more as the effect is multiplied through age.

Betis - did this one by turning of "darker cracks" and used AO color instead, I guess that is what you should do to get the color you want.
