			Why the faked gray checker background? Just make it transparent. | |||||||

			Thanks, folks! I had a lot of fun with this.
 Well, as far as "marketing" goes, I think the lamp might get lost against the default life preserver -- it might not catch the eye as well as when it's isolated, as written. But you're right, I ought to make transparency an option. Instead of the coloured background, maybe? Kat

			The lifesaver won't show up when you submit the filter.

			you can do it three ways, kat. put in your own background, the life preserver or a transparency. just put all three options on a switch with a control. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

			Good idea, Craig!!! Okay, which one of you guys is going to use ThreeDee's "Lathe" to create stone and marble columns/ballistrades??? As demonstrated, you can mod the "Lathe" filter to get exact shapes (I prefer the curve method best )..... Steve

 B'uh...*smacks forehead* Wow, I haven't submitted a filter with a significant alpha channel for a while. I thought the lifesaver would show up as default. Okay. Time to go fix this... ^_^;
 I started a stone lathe filter, actually -- free-form like the wooden one -- but it took so bloody long to render, and besides, I got side-tracked by the lava lamp.
 You know, StevieJ, I started the lava lamp filter using curves, but couldn't get the flare at the base quite right, so I just skipped it and went straight to the gradient. Voilà ! Kat

 I hear ya.....kinda forces you to stay with the simplified perlin methods.....
 I'm not denying that it looks good!!! ..... If you ever go back to do further work with it.....try creating the lathe edge profile with just curve work.....then difference blend a single prof grad onto the edges.....it will clear up those longitudinal "striations" and give it a more continuous reflective (plastic/glass) look.....
