Thanks Carl, Steve and Persidio. I am very proud of this one. smile:beer: It may be slow out of the gate but I think if people will work with it a little they will realize that it has a lot of flexibility. I use a technique of using the edges of the image to glue the grunge into the cracks that helps sell the grunge. I tried to organize the controls in a way that allows the user to start at the top and work their way down to systematically select exactly the type, quality and amount of grunge they desire. Unfortunately the eight presets do not do a good job of representing the starting points for grunge generation; for that I would have needed 432 presets – and that is just the basic bookmarks for beginning the grunge generation. This is the first one of my filters that I think *should* go high even if it ultimately doesn’t.

BTW, if you want to use the technique of using the image edges to glue effects into the cracks then you can download my ‘Speedy Edges’ snippet.

I think this filter looks awesome! Great work. Revisit it in a month and you will be surprised how much faster you can make it without losing anything.

I think it is a HU

Before we drive the usage down on this one too far I just want to add that this is not a poor performing filter. When I mentioned that it may be slow out of the gate I was referring to its adoption by users not to its render time. I do not want anyone to hesitate to download it and try it out because it is slow. smile:)

I like it Persidio, very nice. smile:) You are much more subtle than I am. I usually pile on the grunge then overlay even more grunge so you can barely make out the image - nothing subtle about my work.

Thank you!

Thanks in general to the FF users that liked this filter enough to use it, thanks specifically to Carl, StevieJ, Persidio, Redcap, jffe, CFandM and Revelation for liking it enough to comment on it, and special double thanks for Persidio for liking it enough to bump it with a sample, triple thanks to Filter Forge for providing me with free access to the premier graphical application on the market. You all gave me my first HU! Hopefully it will not be my last. You guys are the best. smile:beer: smile:loveff:

Artists/designers love their grunge - I see it everywhere. I have no doubt that 'I2 Grunge FX' will be HU shortly - it should be editors choice.

Strange but true - I have a theory as to why but I will leave the speculation to others.

I am still at the introduction stage. It is going pretty well but there is some serious breadth I'm dealing with here. I will be glad when I get past the introduction of new material and actually begin a project of my own. It cannot be skipped though and it has allowed me to think about what I want to do. I can imagine projects that would necessitate a partner. A lot of the images and scenes I used to look at and see magic and mystery I now see hard work and attention to detail. It has changed me.
The hard part is that life is making a serious attempt to throw me off track - and life in this case is big and strong - I call it 'Mr. Life'. I hope it cuts me some slack soon.
When are you going to start Maya Carl? It's free you know.. smile:)

I would be flattered if it were true. smile:) The thing I learned from this filter, the thing that I think put it over the top, was the value of adding a mode where the grunge can be applied without the external image (notice variations 2,7 and smile8). It might even have been worthwhile to add a mode where the grunge could be applied with transparency. Plus this filter has a huge range of possible grungy looks. It would take far more than 20 presets just to lay down the base modes.
I still don't think it has hit its stride popularity wise. I suspect it is loved by a few users that use the hell out of it and goes overlooked by everyone else. It is one that could have benefited from an EP - or at least I should post some samples. Then again, if I2 does not rate an EP then this one certainly does not.

I did like that about your filter smile;) smile:) After Steve made that cloning joke I'm reluctent to utter the words " I may in the future include that mode in a new filter " with your permission and credit for concept smile;) smile:)

I love filter that can give a good variety of results - some people prefer one trick ponys I guess there's a market for both smile8)

No.

But I do have visions that I want to bring to life; and the capacity to do it. I don't think Kafka could have been a mathematician but he was the greatest artist to ever live - IMHO. I'm not saying I'm Kafka or anyting, I'm just saying I have the aptitude I need to fulfill my own visions. smile:)

Imagine a young person today with a PlayStation, an Xbox, an internet connection and a stack of hiphop CDs. How difficult it must be to appreciate something like Kafka or Barthelme.

I sure do wish you would get started learning Maya too. I'm stuck and I have been for hours trying to get Maya to work the way I want it to and it sure would be nice to have someone to talk about it with.

Don't worry they'll do a life story of Barthelme staring Bruce Willis and Paris Hilton with plastic action figurine in happy meals at Mc Donalds - culture is in safe hands smile:D

I've got an old furry brain which is trying to absorb Dreamweaver at the moment some times I think I should have stuck with painting not so pretty pictures - I wish I could help, having some one clarify a few things can make it all fall into place smile:| smile:)
