Thank you ^_^ I'm a particularly big fan of anime, so I tend to use speedlines in my actual work quite a bit. Realistically, colored speedlines aren't used too often in modern anime due to critism of being "slightly" overused during the last decade or so, but they are still very common in manga and Japanese video games these days to convey motion and excitement ^_^ Waku~waku!

@Zephos: How do I make this work on rectangular images? I'm trying to get the speedlines to work and stretch across a picture with a sun in the very middle; it's in landscape aspect ratio. I find the speedlines appear to emanate to the edges of a square, and then repeat again. Any tips? Thanx.

That's a good question Torley, actually, that's the one major weakness in Speedliner that I've been trying overcome. Filter Forge naturally has a tiling nature to it, so it does the repeat normally, so a component structure has to be introduced that can compensate for it.

As far as I am aware, there isn't a way to make the streaks extend on a non-square aspect ratio image. Although uberzev proved that a Proportional Gradient filter was possible, with the streaks on Speedliner, they extend in all directions, making them a bit complicated I'd imagine to compensate for more so than a Profile Gradient.

What I usually do though is just create a square image the size of the original image's longest dimension in a program like Photoshop, use Speedliner and then copy and paste the effect into your original image. It's a bit unconventional, but it should do the trick ^_-

Try my spokes filter with the proportional gradient. You may be able to figure it out.

Thank you so much StevieJ! Speedliner is one of the first filters I really wanted to create in Filter Forge since, as it's one of those cornerstones of anime and manga effects, ahahaha!

Oh yes! Thank you everyone who has downloaded and tried Speedliner! I am proud now to introduce Speedliner Lv2! Completely rebuilt, easier to use, faster, more precise, far more variation, a new Uniform Speedline mode, a new color shift ability that changes the outer color of the Burst effect and my pride and joy -- Speedliner's original biggest weakness has now been fixed with Extend Mode!

This updated version of Speedliner Lv2 is all thanks to ubersev's Proportional Gradient, Any Angle Gradient and Circular Gradient -- actually, all of them rolled into one to be a bit more accurate! Speedliner Lv2 was actually reconstructed virtually from the ground up, so as a precaution to those updating it, you might want to save a backup of the original Speedliner since Speedliner Lv2 may cause the old presets to be quite a bit different.

Oh Torley! Your wish has now come through! With the new Extend Mode, Speedliner can work on tall and wide images without tiling and extend the whole way! The settings of Extend Mode are as follows:

Extend Mode:
1. Square Images
2. Wide Images
3. Tall Images

Here is example of what Speedliner Lv2 is capable of compliments of Izalon (That's the girl's name)! Thank you all again for your interest in Speedliner ~^_^~

excellent, zephos!

and vlad, you need to hire uber or at least find a way to validate his snippets more. i'm seeing more and more of uber's snippets showing up in various filters and whereas the authors are giving credit, the snippets themselves dont get any usage value in the library.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Glad you asked Torley, sure am! ^_^ The only other known filter of mine that would need it as far as I am aware is Manga-Kata which has a similar speedline option, but a few of my other filters need some other form of proportional compensation to work well in all cases. In particular Deluge Disaster and Sakurama have a bit of a floating problem on tall images that I've been trying to develop but without much luck X_X

Oh, that reminds me, ubersev, what's your opinion on an "Anchor" snippet? Basically, a snippet that automatically forces a filter to render the effect at the bottom of a tall image (unfortunately, vertical offset can only go so far). My best try was using a part of your Proportional Gradient (where it splits into two repeat vertical profile gradients) and try to hide the top half on the output... unfortunately, it only works circumstantially in my case. From you experience, would you reckon that something like it is possible in the current Filter Forge?
