This really deserves a mention.

Truly! Here's a thread started yesterday in the 'Creating Filters' category hoping to expand our understanding of this method beyond the "very simple implementation" and with multiple kernels. http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...&TID=12463

So I was thinking something like Gabor noise in FilterForge, although it kinda doesn't have the same application in 3D texturing. But I'm pretty sure if scripted we can expand on inputs for it. Although this itself is pretty neat.

FRIENDS, check the awesome paper out!!!

I once sent a feature request to the FF guys, but they replied that it's not on their feature list (yet). I guess we have to do it on our own. I have to say that I am too lazy these days to do some scripting, so anybody who would be willing to do this is welcome!

I was really impressed by the paper when I read it. There is also a funny iPhone app to play around with. (" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://itunes.apple.com/app/igabornoi...5392?mt=smile8)
It's not superfast, but good enough to see what it can do.

I don't work with 3D software but I was just wondering if this texture wouldn't work just as well as the Gabor Noise above? http://www.filterforge.com/filters/12446.html

DJI, basically different from what's technically being discussed. Gabor noise is a specific method in creating noise patterns.

Here's a bit more about what's going on and why the kernel looks like the way it is in the filter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabor_filter

Amazing. Looking at the texture it seems so simple and straightforward but the whole thing is certainly far more complicated than I had first imagined. Thanx Skybase for the info and the link. smile:)
