This is a beautiful filter, and has many variations that all look great with different types of images. I haven't viewed vwg's own website to see different examples (I am wary of visiting unknown sites), but even on my own test images I am getting very beautiful results.
I only wish that this filter were usable on non-square images. I don't mind having the silhouette itself being round, but I would like to see the rest of an oblong image filled with the background texture instead of having an additional part-circle silhouette being rendered.

I made my own copy of this filter replacing the ellipse component with the free ellipse component and it's now working the way I want it to.

Thank you Eve for the kind words. Although I have submitted over 80 filters, I don't consider myself an expert by any means. Most of my filters are a result of just playing around and inserting different components randomly.
I tried to make this filter useful for shapes other than squares, but with negative results. I am glad you found a way to do this. May I ask where you found the 'free ellipse' component? I would like to try it.
As far as the web site I created, I can assure you, it is safe. It is a simple site I created to show the beauty of this filter. I didn't put any external links or have any ads.
