You can pick any color, or even load external images, to use on the 10 available ART BORDERs.
Below, the untouched default preset, with only the "ART BORDER" color changed to (near) black  "From the moment we are born, we start being filtered..." |

The "SHARPainting (Slow)" option applies just a simple sharpness processing to the overall effect. As this can cost some extra render time, it's available only as a fixed setting.
Users looking for more control/fine-tune on the "SHARPainting" look, just render the effect with this option unchecked and post-process using simple sharpen/unsharp mask on your favourite image editor. You can even use the fabulous filters on FF library like, for example: ReSharpen by geekatplay Below, some variations using the built-in "SHARPainting" option:  "From the moment we are born, we start being filtered..." |

The best part is how well thought out your controls are ... so many possible variations ... I used my own texture for background and did as you suggested. I sharped after the filter using a high pass sharpen. Another great filter Lipebianc. You really deserved the EP ... thanks for the great work .....

I have not had yet time for this, but is really awesome and great the effect and how is able to change the original into an artistic painting AND the better is how is able to recover and light the shadows and dark areas.

Great effect on how from a very dark photo you can get such artistically and much lighted and very good colors taken from the original and keep and preserve them and optimize them in a very good way. Congratulations.

Awesome how a simple and plain photo can be converted very easily and without even touching the settings and with preset 1 !!! Just slight variation adding more saturation.

Thank you very much, Gene! Fantastic example you posted! Loved the colors, the image really gained life! Good to see you used an external image texture as yout ART BORDER and followed the tips I posted here (Laters, I'll post some extra tips regarding that feature)
About the controls: This filter originally has near 40 of them, but I decided to remove many redundant and little effective ones. Less is more (I hope  ) !

Using external images as an ART BORDER source can bring great creative looks to your borders!
Either using Image Placement>Placement>Fit/Stretch/Fill, some black strokes my appear on the final processed image near the boundaries. If that's UNWANTED, see image below how to easily fix it:  "From the moment we are born, we start being filtered..." |

The Pseudo-HDR controls can surely reveal and bring extra life to final artistic result!
But sometimes, for whatever reason, the PHDR effect may not be wanted/necessary. To bypass it, set "Pseudo-HDR %" control to '0'. If you also want the original colors/tones and just wanna play with the painting effect, tweak settings as below: - POST Destauration: 0 - Tint %: 0 - POST Saturation: 0 - POST Tone Shift: 50 - POST Contrast: 50  "From the moment we are born, we start being filtered..." |

The included ART BORDERS may not be enough for some people
Pre-processing images with external frame filters can bring some cool variables to the equation
 Remember to uncheck "ART BORDER"
- Top example was pre-processed by Simple Frame (Kochubey) - Bottom example was pre-processed by Messy Art Frame  "From the moment we are born, we start being filtered..." |

"STROKE Clean Up" option can be very effective in some cases, "cleaning up" some highlight from the strokes, check the difference:

"STROKE over EDGE" option puts the strokes over the countours, but its transparency is directly affected by high "STROKE Smoothing" values.
Use high "Edge Opacity" values combined with proper "EDGE Threshold" values to better perceive the difference between this option activated/deactivated!  "From the moment we are born, we start being filtered..." |
