Congratulations for having finally upload this diamond and golden gem of filter in the library and with the lovely presets you have put and that I like them much.
I really LOVE VERY MUCH this filter and you can´t imagine HOW MUCH, and also want to thanks a million (no wait, two millions, or perhaps better 10 millions) thanks for having made this filter that is very well done, efficient, optimized, fast and so clever thought about the shape modification and the lots of possible customization you can make with so little controls and so small amount of components!! |

Here's a version I was developing on the side of the whole thing. It's the multi-shapes version with instead of having super load of user input, it just has an image input. The image must have an alpha layer and preferably should be a square image which the particle shape should fit in. I knocked out several controls because in some cases the filter just breaks because of it. It's not that different really.
Due to the way the filter works it takes 3 minutes to render it fully on my 4 virtual-core laptop. Do expect mild improvements but they won't be officially posted in the library. Please don't make me do this again. GradientShapes-Customizable.ffxml |

Example with the customized shapes version. If anybody knows a better way of doing all that please let me know. I just can't figure a nicer way of making the "chance" work with each particle. I can't tell if anything I'm doing here results in a faster filter or just a huge clunky thing. I just patched it together off the top of my head.

Thanks very much for this new multi shape version I will see how it works and will see if I can find possible another alternative if you are not satisfied with this one, as I have already tried some different ways to make it with the other filter.

It's just impractical. At the point of doing this you might as well use Adobe Illustrator's Spray Symbol tool. It's much much more interactive, works better, and doesn't need all this extra effort. There are other 3rd party tools out there that produce much desired results just like this one. I just don't know them off the top of my head, but they probably would work better than this.
Either way it's here for enjoyment. ![]() |
