If you've ever wanted to transfer HDR data to another filter, this is a way to do it.For compression, it uses the formula x/sqrt(x^2+1) to squeeze any number fr om 0-∞ into 0-1.For decompression, it uses the inverse function x/sqrt(1-x^2) to take any value from 0-1, and uncompress it into 0-∞.The only lim itations are a pixel's data restriction for the RGB values to be 0-255, so really higher numbers will be less accurate.
