When adding presets to the filters is sometimes very difficult to make a difference between them and can´t tell what is different fr om just looking at the preset tiny little thumbnail, specially if this preset is similar looking to another BUT have different settings.

Also I would like to put my favorites presets in the first positions instead of having them at the end of the factory filters and scattered through the preset list without any ability to reorganize them.

So it would be good to be able to "copy" the preset and INSERT it in the place that you want between other presets in the list, or still better to be able to "drag and drop" the thumbnails in the preset list.

Also would be very good to be able to have at least have a number on the preset, and even better would be to have a name, or better a short description when you hover the mouse over that preset so you could know better what this preset is for.

Also I do not know WHY you can´t delete, modify, upd ate or move any of the factory presets. If I do not like some of the presets and I want to chnnage the se ttings and upd ate them why they are totally fixed ?

SO IN SHORT I AM SUGGESTING TO ADDING THIS POSSIBLE FEATURES TO PRESETS:

Be able to have presets numbered

Be able to give a name to the preset

Be able to give a short description or note for the preset

Be able to move and reorganize, and reorder the presets, and move them as you want.

Be able to modify, update and delete factory presets.

At least the most important for me would be naming the preset

THIS HAS BEEN A REQUEST SINCE 2006 BUT STILL IN 2012 IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE

I do not think that is a very complex and difficult thing to do, and that would take lots of time to be included in filter forge, so I do not understand why after 6 years this has not been added to FF.

Please, how many threads would it be needed for Filter Forge team to be able to do something about this and be able to put this inside FF ?

How much longer should we wait for this to be possible ?

In the THE UNOFFICIAL FEATURE WISHLIST

You can find "Ability to name presets. (Planned)" but is not put for WHEN.

Some method to quickly shift presets around so you can conveniently get the best of them to be exposed in the prominent first slots. Just worked on a filter with 33 presets so far, and it quickly becomes tedious.

I would imagine something like the control re-ordering UI in the filter editor or the filter upddate floating window in the v1.004 main window.

Well, six years later we are still waiting for this. smile:(

In the presets tab, would be interesting if we could give a name for each preset. So, when we mouseover would show the name, like those in html (alt=) hmmm... yellow rectangle. Ops, I don't now the right name of it. Or show like shows the word 'Default' on the first preset. Maybe bold.

NAMEING PRESETS

it would be a nice option to be able to name presets. It would give the end user more of an idea of what its going to do rather than just looking at the image.

on the same thread Foxxe wrote

I would enjoy that feature too. Sometimes I have run and re-run them so I can remember out of all my presets just exactly why I saved them

UPDATING PRESETS ON LIBRARY FILTERS

Quote
ok, this continues to bug me. i want to be able to update a preset on a library filter and i cant. i can see no reason to not allow this. once the filter is in MY library and not the general filter library, i should be able to alter the 'factory se t' presets.

i'd like the presets to be numbered within the thumbnails, something small in a corner, perhaps, and with the option to change a preset's number's color in case of conflict with the thumbnail itself. this would just be something that just shows up in the preset thumbnail and nowhere else.

Please, look why he requests it in that thread

DRAG AND DROP PRESET ORDER

Quote
Now changing the order of two presets takes three (or six) steps:
- two clicks to duplicate preset
- rightmouse click and leftmouse click to replace preset
- rightmouse click and leftmouse click to delete duplicate

AND this is ONLY possible on your own presets and not on factory presets

PRESET NUMBERING AND LOCATION

Quote
i know that dragging and dropping presets has already been asked for. i still want that, but in addition i'd like to be able to have presets numbered. maybe a little gray number in the upper left of the preset thumbnail maybe?

i've got dozens or more presets for a given filter and i'm working on one that's somewhere in the middle (or anywhere, really), and i'm altering that particular preset but i want to keep the original and just add the mod right after the original so that they're together, would be nice.

Ability to give names to presets ABILITY TO GIVE NAMES TO PRESETS

Currently we can create preset but cant name them.
It will be good if we can name the different presets of the same filter.
This will help to identify the nature of the preset or the purpose of the preset.

In 2010 Mike Blackney also wrote this:

NAMED PRESETS

Would be great would be if creators and users could give names to presets, so that the name would either be displayed over the thumbnail or as a tooltip when mousing over the preset.

This would be great for just naming the different presets (rusty, outdoor) or for giving usage information ("Works great on dark, high contrast photos").

Yes great idea to put comments also to the presets. Very good and very useful

NUMBERS FOR PRESETS

Quote
I use some filters so much, I have over 50 presets for them. I have to remember which preset gives the effect I want and each time I want to go back to a specific preset, I have to count up to 50 to find it!
If there were a toggle button that when clicked, numbers would appear over the presets and I would save so much time.

Naming or numbering a preset should be an extrememly simple thing to do, since all it takes is a new tag in the FFXML file (for presets shipped with filter), or in the XML file found in "My presets" folder (for user created presets).

If you look at those files you can see there are many <tags> in them, which save the settings of the preset.
All that's needed is a new tag which holds a number or a free text, and that FF would know to read this tag.

You are right Morgantao, I really do not think that you must make an engineer career to be able to change the presets smile:D As shown in the library they are XML tags that are added to the filters.

So HOW is possible that in 6 years they have not yet be able to change it ? smile:?: smile:?:

And thinking that as you can see above, this has been a very repeated request in many threads

It seems that you are the small minority, because as shown above there are MANY that think the other way, and think that this really matters.

I will make later a compilation in a possible similar way like this one BUT with all the most requested and more important features that could be possibly be done for FF 4.0 and so we will not have lots of small threads with lots of duplicated requests.

Although I will make it better than this one, that is too long and not really well done.

By the way here is one more thread to be added to this list on this thread

Please, Please, Be able to move and organize the filter presets in 4.0

Also here more info about this topic The shape of FF (4.0) to come

Not me smile:D (plus I do agree that named presets is a good thing), but man, am I sick of all this redundancy! We have to come up with some kind of a moderation policy against such content.

+1 for less redundancy on the forums.

I don't even care about named presets. I just want to be able to change the default settings for components. This should be a priority IMO.

I agree with MrZun, is already 3 years since this thread, and 9 years since this request was done for the first time, and seems that Vladimir do not care to answer and give the user what they request, and I wonder if after so many years this is still a low priority thing. Is not only me and MrZun, there are many more that have requested it in all these years

I understand well that it would not be possible to make the software 64 bit or add GPU acceleration, because these involves a huge work and changing much the software and lot of time, but:

Is it so really much difficult to have more controls on the presets?

Not only give names, also be able to reorder them with drag an drop, although maybe I think that it would be possible and more priority to the second, I mean to be able to reorganize the presets as you want even if they do not have names on it if it too difficult to make.

The names I think that do not need to be shown all the time, only when you hover the mouse over the preset.

Please I cannot understand - DO HAVE THE PRESETS THEIR OWN NAMES? OR I MUST COUNT TO 39 OR 47 OR 74 EVERY TIME? I need the possibility to name/renme MYFILTERS/SUBFOLDERS/FILTERS/PRESETS

StevieJ January 2013

I would like that too Pixel Slaughter...then you could tag images in PS with process of filters and presets used... Running into this problem alot... smile:(

Vladimir Golovin January 2013

PixelSlaughter, StevieJ, the Filter Manager doesn't include any improvements to presets - we'll do that in future releases. My position on presets still stands:

Quote
3. If we decide to rewrite the presets UI, we will be doing that in one big chunk, not as a dozen of features scattered across releases. Naming / labeling, reordering (a.k.a. drag and drop), duplicating, indicating what preset is currently shown in the preview, et cetera et cetera -- either we go the whole hog, or we don't touch it.

Actaully, all that's really needed is an up and down arrow to move the presets around, that's how zillions of programs, even my DVR, operate to control lists. Perhaps with a warning if you change the default preset.

Sorry to say, but I think that is much more easier for me at least, to use a drag and drop system, as it is faster to position exactly where do you want the preset.

I agree, my point is a minimal amount of control would probably be easier to implement, I know... a compromise. For now you have to create extra copies to move things around... harrowing and easy to lose presets.

i think that this should be included in FF 5.0 after they have rebuilt the interface in the FF 4.0 as this is a basic and really needed thing and this is hard and bad the way is now to do it, it would be a really pity and bad thing for me and from my point of view if this is not included in FF 5.0 in some way

Has this been implemented yet? Naming or adding comments to presets would be quite important in my opinion, but I can't find an obvious way to do it.
