Gradients 101
From Filter Forge Wiki
Introduction
In digital image editing lingo, the term gradient is used to describe a gradual blend/transition between two (or more) color values. Gradients have been a long-time staple in graphics software, and Filter Forge is certainly no exception in this regard. Out of the box, Filter Forge provides six Components from the Gradient category that generate various kinds of color gradients:
"That's nice and all," you might say, "but where are my radial gradients, angle gradients, and all the others I know from [insert your favorite image editing application here!]? I only see linear gradients here!".
Good question! Here's the catch: Any gradient that goes beyond those shown above you'll have to construct yourself! Sounds inconvenient and complicated? Well, it's not that bad, really. In the course of this article, we'll get our heads around the fundamental design philosophy of Filter Forge and learn how to make use of the basic building blocks it provides to construct any gradient we could ever need. Sounds good? Then read right on...
Gradient Types
Gradients here, gradients there, gradients everywhere!
The information on the various gradient types has been structured into dedicated sections, which contain guides on efficient gradient construction, alternate construction techniques, useful gradient variants, filter library examples of gradient usage, snippet recommendations, and more. Just follow the links below and explore away!
[Note that the sections have been loosely sorted by difficulty level. Advanced sections expand on construction techniques discussed in the more basic sections, so be sure to read and absorb them all.]
