WOW!! This has finally appeared in the FF library !!! Great !

Now that I can be able to try this myself I have see that as I thought this is very well done and looks really very realistic and and is good to have the implode, even and explode options, and is good to have many sizes available.

Like much too how the hole breaks away.

This can be used to make many realistic holes in designs and multiply them in different sizes.

Thanks very much for sharing this in the FF library

And why only have one hole if you can have many in a ball smile:D

The ball has been done with Wild Orb Perspective by Voldemort

A funtastic filter for sure. smile:)

Perhaps you could try to bend the actual layer that gets broken in or out a little bit around the impact and distort it accordingly?

edit:

Had a quick look at the innards and it seems you have already a bit of that going on. Also you would have to add a thickness to the shards as they get bent/distorted towards the viewer. Due to the radial nature of the effect that should be possible to do and could enhance the "impact".
Don't want to hassle you, though, just some proposals.

Cool pics SpaceRay! smile:)

Nebukadnezar, I'm trying to figure this out. Basically, I need to do a polar transform, use the smudge component (which acts linearly), and transform back. Smudge trail length would be the derivative (slope) of the distortion...I think so...

You can see why I didn't include this feature in the submitted filter. Anyone want to figure out POLAR → CARTESIAN transform with free gradients?

Here you are. smile:)

Free gradients, but unfortunately only applicable to square images so far.
None square should be possible, if there is a way to read out the aspect ratio of the image or if the user provides it.

Layered offsets could be an easier solution instead of smudge.

But I have to say, your example doesn't look too shabby after all.

Again, thanks! Much better. And, the result gave me some ideas. Here's a new filter that's a combination of 5 (yes, 5!) filters: This one here, Skybase's Speedlines, My Extra Edges, Nebukadnezar's Polar to/from Cartesian, and one of my unsubmitted filters that makes the cartoon effect and border. It's actually pretty fast, too! smile:)

I'd love to get a looksy at that one, Indigo, as I'm totaly unhappy with the shrapnel on my volumetric explosion filter.
