Arial TD Font

While waiting for this feature, that could be implemented "any day now", I put together a font that can be used for demonstrating or building text-based filters. Looks like this, basically it is Arial font but redrawn manually (with Bezier curves) in FF.

Since I can't submit them for some reason, I'll provide them here for now, split into two filter (can't attach the original which is over 512kB).

Lower case alphabets here.

And UPPER CASE here.

You can (and probably should) copy them into the same filter as intended.

I am ever more than impressed seeing all these things happen. Plus the level of patients you have producing each character using things that weren't designed to produce fonts in the first place.

Note: Letter at index 1 is empty (space), "a" is number 2.

Inputting (if you can call it that) has its challenges, but type does give a new dimension to forgeing.

Boy that filters workspace looks a lot cleaner compared to what I had to do with that playing cards filter in FF1.. smile;) smile:D

Indeed. A pretty good demonstration of the usefulness of grouping. Here's what the full filter would look like with half the groups expanded.

Arial TD Font

WOW!! Thanks really very much for having taken the time and have the pacience to make all this amazing and perfect Arial font to be used inside Filter Forge. I think this is very helpful and useful and all of them are very well grouped and clean distribution to be used in a good way.

Now would be good to know more how to get the most of them.

How would you be able to use all the fonts at once to mix them ? The only way I can think of is using 5 bombers (5 letters each one) for 25 letters and then blend the results. Because this is the only component that is able to handle more than one input source at once.

I think also that perhaps you can do full words using offset and blending

What other uses can you think of to use this fonts in the way they are built?

TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND

Is there some possible simple way to have the letters with a transparent background (I mean just ONLY the letter as a shape) instead of a square as it is now. Perhaps with Threshold. Or you would need to modify each one of the letters for this?

Currently the simplest way is to scale, (offset) and blend. The text for "The Evening Post" was done that way.

I first input each letter into a free rectangle (0,0)-(1,1) as foreground color with transparent background color, then scaled each to their proper location and blended with a series of blends in Darken mode.

I'm working on a better way to input and compose text, but that could be a while. It is similar to the method used in TD Europa Sans, but I want to be able to input actual characters from the keyboard. That's why I am looking into making a Flash app that can used for creating the Bezier curve input from typed in letters.

A loop could be used to put letters one after the other, as it would be easier to get automatic letter spacing, but it starts to slow down pretty bad after about 20 letters.

Since it is unlikely we're going to have too many other fonts in the near future, I might code the Arial font letter spacing right into the Flash application, which should speed up matters.

Transparent background: Yes, I'll probably do that as well, then you can use multiblend to compose letters into words. Or perhaps I'll just make a script that composes up to 100 letters.

Also, I'll make numbers and some basic punctuation one of these days.

Arial font is now submitted to the library. I did the numbers characters in a separate filter, that one will also be available.

You have full license to modify and use them in your own constructions.

I made them a bit easier to use and put them on transparent background, so you can just scale and multiblend them.

How did you make to submit it to the library if only the lower case letters have more than 20 presets? smile:?:

Actually that wasn't the problem, I had 20 presets, but the filter was just too large to submit. GMM was kind enough to arrange increasing the allowed filter size for submission. That's how. smile:)
