Hey Betis,
Love the light Beam glow filter! That's a keeper! Are you trying to come up with a name? Confused.. How about ..well, let me know on that, ok. Have a good evening! ![]() Ron zazzle.com/Ronspassionfordesign*

Kraellin, what an interesting link you have

I will be utterly astonished if that doesn't get an EP.
![]() A minor critique, I find the outside edges are juuust a bit harsh in their transition to the background. I'd also soften the corners a tiny, tiny bit, like throw on a 0.1% blur in the corner shape. |

Yeah, the frame. There's no transition to the BG, If I were doing this is PS, i'd add a really tiny Outer Glow to the frame to soften the transition.
That may just be my personal taste there. ![]() I could be completely out to lunch though. ![]() |

These look really good Betis!
Here is a small idea for you: transform the frame and picture slightly so that it is smaller in the bottom, making it look like it is hanging on a coord, bending slightly outwards in the top. |

Actually I have that, but it's more subtle and requires a stricter condition. Here's an example:
It's only reflected on the sides that the "sun" is hitting. And only brighter colors really show up, but it applies to all colors. Suggestions? ![]() Roses are #FF0000

Oooh nifty! Smaller radius, and have it mix better over the drop shadow, there's a weird diagonal line where it hits the shadow area. I'd just layer it overtop of the drop shadow, it'd look good to have that smaller radius and it overtop of the shadow (Possibly).
There also might be something weird happening with your fame corner joins, like in the frame itself, but that might be the JPEG compression. |

Hey Betis
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I would suggest dark red (solid color) drapery like what is used for backdrops for works in galleries/museums..... ![]() Using this "Decadent Drapery" by Dilla might look pretty good..... ![]() http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4147.html Steve

There are some limitations due to the "engine" I'm using. For example, putting the background as wallpaper, wood, or drapery may prove to be difficult. This is because it works like putting a coat of paint (your color of choice) on a heightmap. Different walls do not have different surface properties other than height. I will try some suggestions, though, just because I would like to try and have a greater variety on walls.

Just FF and some gradient scale components for the perspective, and a derivative of the heightmap plugged into an offset component.

Ooh the shadows and shininess! It almost looks like some objects are reflecting off of each other, is that right? Considering that you didn't anti-alias the renderings, the render time is approximately Burj Khalifa?

Render time is 6 seconds (Faster with external diffuse/height maps)! HQ Reflections are usually double render time, but speed up once the shading is cached. No AA (It's usually not necessary). No scripts either.
Here's a glimpse at the reflection calculation ![]() Roses are #FF0000

Cool and well done colorful 3D molecules with those shadows and light reflections and the different color hues that this makes and makes them more realistic.
Seeing this remembers me something I have seen that was made with drops of waters instead of these molecules, and in each drop was reflected a small image, so with this I had the idea that I could suggest you as an idea if you like to be able to reflect a little in some way some small images in these beautiful molecules you have done, but this is only a suggestion, and do not know if it would look good or not. |

Actually it's simulating full on 3D shading with internal FilterForge nodes. More like the appearance of it.
The lego with shadows on my forum thread is basically part of the filter above. Betis does a lot of magic. |

![]() I think that's actually an old one. I ended up needing to have a map plugged into the percentage input. needs to be zero at the bottom and higher percentage at the top, otherwise it simply "drags" samples inside without actually reflecting them. (The floor gets shifted over so it looks weird but the reflection is masked out anyway because it points to the sky) Looks like the new one uses a different use of the derivatives as well ![]() Roses are #FF0000

Catch with the current method I think doesn't work too nice with geometric stuff. It seems to work pretty well with some situations though.

WOW! Well done. From my point of view, I really like much more and love more this second example that does not have those perfect spherical molecules, and gives this new beautiful and curious mix of abstract shapes. It´s not that the first one is wrong in any way, is that is more simple and usual, and this new one is out of ordinary and more unusual, and so I like it more.
![]() Although I do not know and can´t understand how you have done this, and things like are only possible from FF experts like you or others FF gods in the forum |

The purpose of this filter is to basically replace the surface node. You can give it all the same inputs (besides reflection blur for now).
Here's a quick example of having other things placed and lit by it. It has Direct Lighting, Ambient occlusion, fake GI, traced reflections, and shadows; things that the current final surface node either lacks or is slow to compute. Has the ability to use internally generated environments for shading, and because it's a node (group), you can continue the filter after processing through it. ![]() Roses are #FF0000

WOW!! Is this true? Have you been able to make a new "Result surface" component replacement? From your text, I understand that the answer is YES. And I agree with you that the problem with the result surface component is that you CAN´T continue adding components AFTER the result surface component, so if you have made the miracle of making a replacement would be really great. |

Sorry that this is an old thread, but I have just found this again, and I have seen that this is not yet available in the library, and I wonder how this has been made, as the screenshot above does not show all the filter. Thanks very much, if you want, it can be sent privately, instead of making it public.
This would be really great if it would be really possible to replace the surface node as it would be really useful |
