SpaceRay and Morgantao: thank you so much for your kind words! smile:) smile:)

Surprisingly (or not), this filter took me almost 7 months to be completed (!!!)
Mostly because:
- my total lack of free time smile:cry:
- little FF developing knowledge skills (specially the bomber)
- many, many trial and error
- speed optimizations
- endless testing on all kinds of images
- feature 'trimming' smile:D

Below, an example based on preset #6
(All "TEXTURE Layer(s)" set to '0')

I love this filter but maybe I'm doing something wrong? it takes ages on my computer last time it was 28 minutes on a pretty simple image (1000x2000) with one of the presets.. has put me off tweaking anything.
My original photos I haven't even tried, they are 25 Mpx
What is causing it?
mac OS 10.6 Macbook Pro about 2 years old. PS or not, same result.

annettep38, what preset did you render? Was a factory preset?
Was the option "SHARPainting (Slow)" activated on that preset? Try turning of?
Low "STROKE Repeat" values can also slow down rendering a bit...
How long it takes to render using FF built-in images?

I did some tests here using a 1000x2000 image and rendering took nearly 1 minute (I am on a 3 years old PC)

This an excelent, amazing and full of artistic awesomness, and this filter is one very good reason to have filter forge smile:) but I have just found that it does not work right with images WITH a transparency background OR perhaps I do not know how to put the right combination of settings to get the effect applied only to the image and not to the transparent background.

In the examle below I have used the FF built in Lionfish WITH transparency and with preset 1 and it fills all the transparent background with a black texture (the white addes after as the optional and well done border) and as far as I know there is no setting that can make the filter do NOT fill that transparent background, or I may be missing something and do not know it.

Sorry lipebianc to say something negative on your awesome creation, but I think that maybe would be useful to have the ability to use images with transparency too, and if it is already possible, please, would like that you tell me how can be done.

If making this filter to make use of transparent background is not possible and would be a lot of work to modify it so it can use transparent background is hard, do not bother about it, it was something I just found. Perhaps using some alpha mask detection could work.

Thanks very much

Thank you for your input about this subject, SpaceRay.
Unfortunately the filter's original concept is different, so it was not designed that way.
Right now I don't have either time or knowledge to accomplish your request with efficiency.
Feel free to modify it, BUT I'd appreciate some proper credit if a modification of this filter was submitted to the library as a new filter.

Best regards!

OOO a challenge! And great homework material for SpaceRay! haha... DIY man! Try it!

Actually, for this filter to accommodate alpha layers it'll probably need a major rebuild if we were to do this effectively. We can easily throw in a threshold with alpha channel but that's not going to preserve strokes nor will it present the distortions introduced in the process. So given how preserving the looks would be a priority, it'll need a major overhaul. Well... maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks for answering lipebianc, and as I told you above, do not bother at all, if this can´t be done as is not something important or needed, just was a suggestion and something I found and could be useful to have.

OF COURSE that I would always give credit to you if I would modify this filter and would not submit it to the library, I would just send it to you and you can submit it if you wanted.

I have to say that before writing this I have already tried to see if there could be a way to make this possible and have tried many settings combinations, and then also have opened it in filter editor and tried some modifications but none of them did work and get the same result, only one of them did work but without the nice strokes, so I think that maybe is much harder than it seems and so I will not bother with it, as I said is not very important.

smile:p well well well... looks like I'll just pick the challenge up anyway. It's just fun stuff smile;) Has nothing to do with importance!

SpaceRay, if you ever run into a wall like that, don't hesitate to ask the forums about it. At LEAST I'll leave answers if the questions aren't too specific. I personally think having questions regarding modifying or building filters would help the community and many others who may be struggling with the program as much as you are. In any case, don't hold problems back regardless of how simple it is. Take some screencaps... tell us what you're trying to do. We most likely have solutions.

I personally feel you often hope somebody else will do you a favor. I figure you do try modifying it yourself but end up struggling and giving up on it. At least these forums have answered many of your requests, and I do hope you picked up something from them. But I'm sure you can also ask us questions... as much as you typically leave a bunch of posts every week anyway. Just don't hold problems to yourself.

smile;)

Oh and hey... so last night I tried modifying this filter myself haha... oh boy I'm entertained.

Well, thanks for the offering and I agree that is good to ask for help in the forum if you have tried and can not make something, BUT I do not want to bother you or any other with things that really are not important and not needed much, I mean that this was something I found that was not possible and tried to do it, and could not do, and then I just suggested if the author or anyone knew if it was possible, but as said, is not something that I really wanted to have much or needed to have. If it is possible, good, if not, does not matter much.

I would surely ask if I really needed and wanted something that was important and I could not find a way to do it, and so I reserve it for this and not just ask help for anything.

I like your answer and I agree with you and thank you for what you said and is good and kind from you, but I think is bad from me that when I try to make something and then I try a few times and I can´t, I very fast become frustated and ask for help and hope that anyone with much more knowdledge and skills could do it if wanted, but this is not good to do it many times and seems like a selfish thing, so I will not do it again unless as said above is really something needed and important, and not something that I have thought or had the idea and without any important purpose.

You (and also some other FF users too) have helped me much and I thank you really much for all the help and time you have spent on me, and I appreciate it and glad for it, and have learnt a lot from you and how you do things, but I will not keep asking things in the way I have done before, because I think is not the right way to do it.

As said I will only ask for help again for things that are really needed and important, or will make suggestions for some possible things that could be done by any other BUT would be just that, a suggestion and not something to be expected to be done by other.

Thanks very much for your patience, and for being kind and I know is not easy to be with me and understand me and know why I make the things I make in the way I make them, but I am triying to change and do not continue doing it badly many times.

As said already before, you deserve much this kind words for making such great, useful, helpful and artistic filters with this high quality and great ideas.

You say that you have FF developing knowledge skills, but you make such a great and well done filters in such a way that looks that you are really an expert, at least in the kind of filters that you do.

Perhaps you mean that you need lots of time and as you said many, many trials and errors and lots of testings with many images to finally reach to something as good as this filter and you would like to make it faster and easier having more FF knowledge and skills with less trials and errors.

Anyway, I appreciate all the effort you are doing and the hard work for creating the filters you make that are great. Thanks and I wish you the best and that you can keep making more of your great works.
