AND ALSO IMPORTANT THAT IS THIS IS FAST ENOUGH !!

To render a 2000x2000 it takes only a few seconds ! smile:) So is not only a wonderful filter by design, also a very efficient and optimized one too!

And this is the last example I put for now because I can´t keep seeing so much beauty and having this high emotion more time.

Now I will try to make complex designs based on black and white drawings as masks to fill them with the awesome shapes created by this beta filter.

Here is one example I have done with this idea

And as the above can´t really be seen well, here is a close up in more detail

The color has NOT been given by the filter, as obviously the result of a black and white source must be black, white and a shade of greys, so I have made a layer overlay with lots of colors and then applied it using the "Color" blend mode.

Please, Skybase, take your time and make the filter as you want and how would like it.

Even making this excellent and awesome update you have done so very well and surprising results, I STILL think that there could be ANOTHER version with the simple Gradient Circles with different shapes that CAN´T be done with a simple polygon component, and this means having hearts, arrows, and more complex shapes, AND also a way to mix those shapes if you wanted or just have only one shape.

Although I like much your new version I ALSO like the results I have put in the first part of this thread that can´t be done with your new updated filter.

Although I like much and love your new updated and different version of the filter with multishapes, I think that is NOT the same as the suggestion I have put at the beginning and you CAN´T make the same things with your new filter as the ones I show on the first page, because you can´t have hearts, arrows, and others shapes in your filter as they can´t be done with just one component as you have done very well in your filter.

So, Skybase if you allow it and want, I can upload my own version of this to be able to do with is shown on the first posts and have multiple shapes (now is scattered in 4 different filters)

THERE IS 2 OPTIONS

The easy one, be able to select shapes BUT only have one of them showing as you have done in your new filter, as this is the same as your first filter but with different shapes.

OR make it multishape BUT with fixed shapes that you can´t choose

Well, if you want I can upload it and you will see it, and then if you like it you can upload it yourself to the library

I guess you can put the mod version here and see what happens.... I basically just took the suggestion as is and tried it out... and I quote myself saying this when it worked after several iterations, "It looks nice, it does what it does, but man... the usability is like beached whale." I'll explain in detail later but it's basically the difficulty in finding the right balance for what a filter can do. It either becomes bloated with features or it becomes too restrictive and gets boring after several uses.

I agree with you that is important also to have a good, easy, fast and intuitive usability for working right and efficiently, I mean that it should be easy to find and use the settings and not have LOTS of differents controls that you feel like you are lost in a sea of settings.

If a filter has too many features, is difficult to have a balance between them, and if it poor and very few, is only useful for specific works but not much used and wishing it had more.

I think that a solution could be to make it in the best possible way OR have different filters that have variations of the features and have a usable and manageable settings.

Final version of Gradient "Circles" is now in the library queue. It's just cleaned up, nothing too fresh happened since aside fr om me fixing a couple obvious issues.

Multiple shapes, complex shapes is not available in this version. There's no way to work it out correctly and while the results are what most would expect, the controls are terrible and it sucks using it.

Details: when designing this filter it's notable that the suggestion here takes into account the interests in utilizing multiple shapes to produce further, complex iterations of shapes. The variations look nice but don't the resulting set of controls produced based on this was basically a hinderance than a good thing. Put it this way, when you want more control for 1 shape, you need controllers. The more controllers you have per shape, the better it is for the user, but the more controls it has, the less usable it becomes. By the time I was adding the 5th shape, the filter was just bloated with too many parameters. We can always try lim iting the number of controls but that's just restrictive.

Furthermore by having other shapes like hearts, arrows, and little galaxies and stuff, I ran into the same problem. More controllers or none. Gets boring very quickly when you don't have enough to play around with, nor is it fun to manage so many controllers that only serve a single purpose. It is also notable that canned shapes get boring super quickly smile;) You know, you want tons of shapes if you want to have variety.

It sounds restrictive on my part but believe me, it sucked when I tried it all. If you're just looking for the effect of it it's cool but its nowhere near a good filter as a simple, single shape version.

Lastly if anybody wants to really dive into those problems you should. Having a "mini library of parameters" or any form of index of attributes is something that needs to be addressed in FilterForge. It's not a major issue, but it's something that can be solved in various ways.

Either way that's all I have. Have fun with the filter.

Skybase, I agree with what you said about the filter being boring if too restrictive, or not fun if it has too many controls. It's mostly true to ALL filters, not just this one.

About the "canned" shapes, you could always use the color control to add custom shapes from black and white images. But first one should solve the too many controls issue.

There's a version in my library that accepts black and white images or selections. I just didn't throw it in this version because I got lazy lol
